The Audience Development Manager at Long Lead is charged with finding the target readership for our impactful work. Overseeing audience strategy and social media for Long Lead, this proactive, experienced collaborator will help our young company expand its reach and build a community of fans for our journalism.
The ideal candidate has at least four years of experience developing readership across various social platforms, a background or education in journalism, and a track record of sustaining and building audience growth. They are eager to experiment with the ever-changing tools released by various social media platforms and are excited by the opportunity to build and promote an emergent journalism brand.
Responsibilities
• Maintaining Long Lead’s social presence on a daily basis, which includes the ability and willingness to write and edit an array of social copy and manage visual assets that engage audiences.
• Framing Long Lead’s stories alongside the news cycle to maintain their relevance and attract new audiences.
• Developing, directing, and executing strategies to showcase Long Lead’s projects, specifically around story launches and recirculation, awards and recognitions, and ongoing promotion.
• Growing Long Lead’s audiences on various social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn.
• Working alongside management to develop KPIs, measure campaign performance, and adjust accordingly to achieve desired results.
• Working with reporters, editors, and designers to use Long Lead’s story elements (photos, audio, video, illustration, graphics, data, and quotes) to promote our work and bring it to life on various external platforms.
• Directing contract social media developers and video editors to create content that will be engaging for Long Lead audiences.
• Collaborating with Long Lead’s newsletter editor and writers to develop social media and initiatives to drive newsletter subscription and engagement.
• Managing audience segmentation efforts and paid promotion campaigns.
• Staying up-to-date on the latest social media platform tools and trends and leveraging them to Long Lead’s benefit.
Qualifications
• At least four years of experience in audience and/or social media management.
• Hands-on experience promoting work and engaging audiences on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, and LinkedIn.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as editorial judgment.
• A background or experience in journalism, literary publishing, and/or online media.
• Fluency in and experience with various audience development channels (SEO, social media, newsletter, partnerships, and aggregators).
• Experience with web analytics and reporting tools such as Google Analytics.
• A collection of active internal contacts at the major social networks to troubleshoot potential problems.
• A successful record of establishing — and growing — an active and engaged community on various social accounts.
• Experience in managing and overseeing production for high-level, visually-driven social materials.
• A proactive work ethic that thrives in a collaborative, fully-remote work environment.
• A desire to experiment and innovate on various platforms to raise awareness of stories and attract new followers.
• Extremely organized — experience with Airtable a huge plus.
