The Communication Coordinator is a key team member who will expand awareness and support of Housing Forward through strategic messaging on multiple communication platforms. This position is an opportunity for someone who is eager to grow their existing skillset and contribute to a mission-driven organization. The ideal candidate is skilled in writing for multiple platforms (e.g. social media, website, newsletter, collateral, etc.) and for targeted audiences (employees, clients, donors, volunteers, community members, etc.). They are also willing to collaborate and create multi-media content (photos, video, graphics) that aligns with the organization’s brand, voice, and strategic goals. The Communication Coordinator reports to the Director of Communications, will work closely with the Development Assistant, and will contribute to the success of the Development Team.
Job Responsibilities
- Writing, editing, and proofreading content for use across communications platforms that is reflective of Housing Forward’s brand, voice, and goals.
- Informing and implementing an engaging social media strategy; creating and posting content that reflects Housing Forward’s brand, voice, and goals.
- With the Director of Communication, producing and overseeing the creation and design of brand-aligned multi-media collateral (e.g. photos, videos, text and graphics).
- Collaborating with the agency managers and directors, as well as the Development team on content (newsletters, event postings, flyers, etc.) and updates across communications channels.
- Building a library of client, volunteer, and agency partner stories and executing storytelling campaigns with multi-channel application.
- Providing analytics to inform continuous improvement across all digital channels.
- With the website developer, updating and optimizing the website to ensure searchability, usability, and positive user experience.
- With the Director of Communication, exploring opportunities for the growth and improvement of agency communications, marketing, and public relations.
- Supporting development department activities and functions on an as-needed basis.
- Attendance at certain special events is required and may involve evening or weekend hours.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; may be substituted by experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in communications/marketing/PR/journalism.
- Prior experience writing/editing.
- Prior experience with social media content and calendar creation.
- Understanding of Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop) or comparable tools.
- Email platform (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.) and marketing experience a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
- Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills / desire to build relationships with staff and constituent groups.
- Must have smartphone to utilize Agency communication and collaboration tools.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, and walk up and down stairs.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
