Fortune Newsroom Fellowships (January 2024):
Fortune is seeking smart and energetic early-career journalists to join our newsroom for six-month fellowships starting in January 2024.
Candidates must have graduated from undergraduate or graduate school.
Previous relevant experience like internships at publications and work at collegiate publications as well as experience and keen interest in business, economics, and leadership news are strongly preferred.
An integral part of the Fortune newsroom, fellows learn by doing, to research, report, write, and produce coverage. They also learn about the workings of a storied and award-winning digital and print business publication and receive training and direction from newsroom leaders and veterans.
As a Fortune fellow, you will:
- Be assigned to a specific team and focus, such as:
- Audience Development and Social Media
- Business and Trending News
- Finance and Investing
- Leadership
- Newsletter Curation and Production
- Social Video
- Wellness
- Report and write your own stories, likely a mix of quick hits and in-depth pieces, and/or curate, produce, and package Fortune coverage.
- Both pitch stories and take assignments; participate in brainstorming sessions.
- Craft explainers, profiles, trend pieces, evergreen articles, social videos, and/or newsletter editions to help readers understand key topics, companies, prominent players, and trends.
- Contribute to our flagship lists like the Fortune 500 and to our industry-leading newsletters.
- Work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ensure our coverage includes a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices.
- Uphold Fortune’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, and fairness.
- Learn the inner workings of our newsroom and company.
Ideal candidates:
- Thrive on economics and business news and/or demonstrates interest, enthusiasm, willingness, and ability to learn it.
- Value and balance speed and stamina with originality, accuracy, and completeness.
- Consume a lot of news from a breadth of sources and have a pulse on the most important stories and on what would resonate with the Fortune audience.
- For writing-based desks: Write clean, accurate, and insightful copy on deadline.
- For social video: Skill in editing in Adobe Premiere; familiarity with camera and lighting and with social video platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
- For newsletter curation and production: Facility in proofing, packaging, and curating content as well as using digital production tools for web and newsletters.
- Are ambitious, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, able to manage time and juggle multiple assignments, quick to learn, curious, and always have fresh ideas.
- Have a growth mindset; can take and internalize direction to grow in the role.
- Can communicate and work effectively and professionally whether remote, hybrid, or in the office.

Fellows can be based anywhere in the US. NYC-based staff will work out of our headquarters office in Manhattan; we also have offices in Chicago and San Francisco. (Those in commuting distance to our locations are in the office a minimum of four days a week.) Those based elsewhere are typically remote.
Fortune fellows work 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday (excluding company holidays), with occasional opportunity for up to 5 additional hours per week.
Pay Rate: $25.71/hour
