Overview of Civic Business:
Kowalski Financial Identity Statement: Kowalski Financial is a civic business. All stakeholders are obligated to organize, educate, and set policy according to democratic principles and standards to transform and sustain democracy as the means to advance justice in 21st-century environmental-economic-social conditions. We do this in partnership with other demonstrations of the Midwest Active Citizenship Initiative.
Policy Issue: Business has a scale of impact in our democracy that makes it especially important to develop a sustainable intergenerational way for companies to thrive while contributing to sustaining democracy as a just system of governance. To meet this need, the Civic Business Policy Agenda calls for a new business model that develops civic imagination, civic capacity, and the civic infrastructure while achieving business goals that advance the common good.
All Kowalski Financial Operations are governed by a new model called a Civic Business Model and all employees actively engage in developing their capacity through daily work to govern for the common good as active citizens and civic leaders. We support this development through our civic infrastructure and educational track.
A civic business builds the capacity of business institutions to develop active citizens and civic leaders within their organizations.
Kowalski Financials (KF’s) leaders see the need for a new business model that develops civic imagination, civic capacity, and the civic infrastructure needed for democracy to be a just system of governance. People who work at Kowalski Financial will experience this institution as something new and different. Often there's a certain amount of surprise and satisfaction that we ask all stakeholders, even those in entry-level positions, to be involved in policy-making and to contribute to promoting justice and the common good in the workplace. Civic principles, standards, disciplines and skills are at the core of how we teach and practice civic governing.
