Title: Marketing & Communication Manager

Job share: Works closely with NCC’s Business Manager, Community Engagement Manager, Deputy Director and Director of Galleries & Exhibitions, Education & Artist Services Manager, and Sales Gallery Manager.
The Marketing & Communications Manager is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position that provides support to each of Northern Clay Center’s programs through marketing, design, website management, database management, and general communications.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $32.00/hour and includes the following benefits:
- Paid vacation time equivalent to 81.6 hours per 12 months

About This Role And Working At Northern Clay Center
The Marketing & Communications Manager manages and oversees NCC’s marketing and communication including, but not limited to: design and production of the quarterly newsletters and annual reports, maintenance and updates of NCC’s websites, planning and oversight of social media and mass email communications, and maintaining and upholding the written and visual standards outlined within the style guide. As a member of the senior team, the Marketing & Communications Manager will work closely with all of NCC’s lead program staff. This position oversees the work of the Marketing & Education Associate.
Much of this role involves routine quarterly work, though tasks and focus change with the season and programmatic calendar. As NCC is a relatively small nonprofit organization, many staff members work across programs and often assist other team members in accomplishing their work. NCC is deeply committed to creating and sustaining a welcoming, safe, and antiracist community for all who enter our building. Our staff are actively engaged in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility training and strive to continue this learning and conversation to examine and improve our programs and practices.
This position requires the employee to be available to work on an occasionally flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings. The average weekly schedule will be 9 am to 5:30 pm four days per week, with an anticipated one evening or weekend special event per month, as well as additional special projects related to the American Pottery Festival and other programs. Workload will vary over the course of the calendar year.
We Are Looking For Applicants Who Have
- Strong administrative, networking, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Macintosh-based programs, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, website platforms including WordPress and/or Shopify, databases, as well as point of sale software (web and in-person), and Google Suite
- Knowledge of, and experience in, marketing and communications
- At least two years of management and/or administrative experience
- Strong visual, written, and verbal communication skills
- Excellent people, time management, and customer service skills
Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
Marketing/Promotion
- Develop and oversee annual communication and marketing plan based on NCC events, initiatives, advertising, programmatic and general mass emails, press releases, social media, and website updates
- Contract, design, and submit ads to media outlets
- Oversee and manage design, editing, and distribution of programmatic and general mass emails
- Oversee and manage writing, editing, and distribution of press releases
- Maintain and update postal, email, and press distribution lists
- Develop and oversee NCC’s social media strategy
- Oversee creation of content for social media channels providing support and editing
- Work with program staff to identify opportunities to create special campaigns to promote programs, individuals, etc
- Work with program staff to create annual marketing budget
- Maintain NCC brand guidelines and style guides and ensure that all materials adhere to guidelines
- Manage NCC’s organization profiles on digital media, including: Google AdGrants and Google My Business, Yelp, GiveMN, and others
- Manage library of images for archive and use in promotional materials
- Maintain archives of NCC print material and press mentions
- Oversee work of, and serve as, backup for Marketing & Education Associate
- Database management
Digital & Print Material Design
- Design and manage the production of the select print materials including 2 – 3 exhibition announcements annually, the annual clay camp brochure, and others as needed
- Create and manage annual print and mailing schedule
- Manage and design NCC’s quarterly newsletter
- Design branded signage for events and programming
- Create digital assets for use on website and social media
- Assist with product photo editing and train new staff on editing protocols as needed
Website Management
- Serve as NCC’s web administrator
- Create websites on new platforms as required
- Create new web pages as required
- Ensure information on website is relevant and up to date
- Transfer and adapt newsletter information to website following final edit of newsletter
- Edit relevant images for optimization on website
- Create graphics for promotion of exhibitions and events for website
- Continually review site to make improvements in usability and organization of information
- Work with exhibitions, sales gallery, and education staff to maintain gallery, sales, and class registration functions, updating images and information as needed
- Maintain product categories and data hygiene
- Troubleshoot issues
- Expand educational web content through the addition of NCC publications, artist videos and resources for art educators
- Ensure website adheres to security and data standards
- Create monthly metric reports for Board of Directors
Year-end Fundraising
- Work with Executive Director and others to create annual year-end fundraising campaign
- Create messaging strategy
- Set goals for number and amount of gifts
- Create lists of constituents to solicit, and work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to identify new contacts
- Prepare letters for signing by Executive Director and relevant Board Members
- Prepare mass emails about campaign to relevant constituents
- Manage GiveMN.org profile and Give to the Max Day campaign
Other Tasks As Assigned
- Provide copy-editing support as needed
- Provide day-of event support for special events including exhibition openings, open houses, and the American Pottery Festival
