About Us:MIMS is a nonprofit organization operating in Oakland, California. Our mission is to increase the number of underrepresented health professionals through mentoring, career exposure, and leadership development. In 2004, three physicians and an educator formed Mentoring in Medicine, Inc. (MIM) in New York, NY. Mentoring in Medicine & Science, Inc. (MIMS) was created using the shared mission of MIM to develop programs and outreach in Oakland, CA. Since its inception in March 2006, MIMS programs have impacted over 3,500 students and have recruited over 150 health professional volunteers in the Bay Area to partner in its mission to increase diversity in the health workforce.
Job Description: The MIMS Program Manager will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of MIMS programs and training. They will work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to ensure the successful execution of program initiatives in alignment with the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
Salary and Benefits: Annual salary range starting at $76,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health care stipend, cell phone reimbursement, vacation days, holidays, sick leave, personal days, and hybrid work options.
Our Programs: MIMS offers diverse program offerings throughout the year, annually serving over 450+ youth and young adults each year via our various six programs: Summer Internship, MADE Pre-Apprenticeship, Summer Pre-Apprenticeship, Mentor Program, Health Scholars Training Program, and MISA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development:
- Lead the development of new program initiatives aligned with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
- Conduct needs assessments and research to identify program opportunities and gaps in services.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, community partners, and funders, to design and refine program strategies.
- Program Implementation:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of programs, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Monitor program activities and outcomes, making adjustments as necessary to achieve desired outcomes and impact.
- Spearhead programmatic marketing and outreach, including completing the MIMS newsletter, and press releases, and maintaining media contacts. This includes creating marketing materials and writing stories for local media outlets that publicize MIMS’ impact and engagement opportunities.
- Partnership Cultivation and Management:
- Research and identify potential partners aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and goals.
- Represent the organization in public forums, networking events, and partnership meetings.
- Cultivate and maintain ongoing relationships with existing partners through regular communication, check-ins, and updates.
- Act as the primary contact for key partners, ensuring alignment on objectives and collaborative opportunities.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Prepare regular reports on program performance for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Use evaluation findings to inform program improvements and strategic decision-making.
- Grant Management:
- Manage grant budgets and reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
- Work collaboratively with the executive director to diversify funding streams and secure resources for program sustainability.
- Support other functions as identified by the ED.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management or related roles within the nonprofit sector.
- Demonstrated understanding of program development, implementation, and evaluation principles and best practices.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with grant management and reporting preferred.
- Commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a passion for social justice and community empowerment.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, nonprofit management, public administration) preferred.
