WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday; occasional evenings and weekends required.
CLASSIFICATION: Annual full-time, exempt
COMPENSATION: $70,000; benefits eligible after 90 days
Position Summary
Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Berkeley Rep) has grown from a storefront stage to an international leader in innovative theatre. Known for its ambition, relevance, and excellence, as well as its adventurous audience, the nonprofit has provided a welcoming home for emerging and established artists since 1968. Over 6 million people have enjoyed more than 500 shows at Berkeley Rep, including 86 world premieres. Berkeley Rep shows have gone on to win 8 Tony Awards, 9 Obie Awards, 11 Drama Desk Awards, 1 Grammy Award, 1 Pulitzer Prize, and many other honors. In recognition of its place on the national stage, Berkeley Rep received the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1997. Berkeley Rep seeks a talented Digital Content Manager to lead our digital marketing efforts, with a particular focus on email marketing and social media strategy. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and effective digital communications.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Email Campaign Strategy:
- Develop and implement comprehensive email marketing strategies, including planning campaigns, determining content, and scheduling sends.
- Create engaging, personalized email content aimed at nurturing leads, retaining patrons, and driving conversions.
- Optimize various email types—newsletters, promotional, and transactional emails—for maximum impact.
- Segment and manage email lists, ensuring compliance with regulations such as the CAN-SPAM Act and GDPR, and handle subscriber preferences effectively.
- Utilize data-driven insights and A/B testing to continuously improve email campaign performance.
- Analyze email campaign metrics, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and refine strategies based on these insights.
- Integrate email marketing platforms with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, such as Tessitura, to ensure seamless data exchange and customer tracking.
Technical Duties
- Oversee email operations across multiple departments and provide training to new users, troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Maintain and manage the email schedule for various departments, including marketing, development, the School of Theatre, and The Ground Floor.
- Regularly reconcile WordFly and Tessitura to maintain synchronization and ensure email deliverability.
- Monitor email blocking by service providers and implement procedures to resolve issues, coordinating with support when necessary.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in email marketing and industry best practices and regulations, such as CCPA and GDPR, ensuring compliance and sharing best practices with other departments.
- Advance, support, and promote organizational inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and antiracism goals. Actively participate in workshops and trainings, including company meetings, harassment prevention, bystander intervention and other antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access initiatives.
Marketing Emails
- Develop and execute segmentation and personalization strategies, including creating extractions, lists, and output sets in Tessitura.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Fellow to execute automated post-show emails and other targeted campaigns.
- Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications and Associate Director of Marketing on season announcements and renewal/acquisition email campaigns, ensuring alignment with related direct mail campaigns.
- Write, design, and execute prospect campaigns, including priority and general on-sales, meet-the-cast features, promotional videos, and reviews.
- Assist in writing and designing service emails, such as show cancellations or postponements, and inform subscribers of season dates and exchange options.
- Develop, write, and design a monthly newsletter, collaborating with development, the School of Theatre, and In Dialogue to create engaging content.
- Analyze internal campaigns to enhance patron engagement and provide recommendations on messaging.
- Write and review ticket purchase confirmations for patrons.
- Deploy email campaigns for other departments as needed.
- Ensure proper data tracking and analyze GA4 for insights and optimization.
Social Media And Content Strategy
- Develop and execute a robust social media strategy to enhance brand visibility and engagement across platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
- Stay abreast of social media trends, engage with our audience, and promptly respond to comments and messages.
- Track, report, and analyze digital marketing performance metrics, including website traffic, conversion rates, and email and social media engagement. Utilize GA4/CI dashboards for accurate data tracking and actionable insights.
- Oversee weekly content meetings to brainstorm and plan upcoming posts.
- Manage creative requests for video shoots and solicit input from other departments for content ideas.
- Attend select Berkeley Rep events outside of regular business hours to generate video and photo content for social media (specifically Instagram and TikTok) consistent with Berkeley Rep’s goals, tone, and brand, on an ongoing basis.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, skills, abilities:
- Minimum of three years of experience in digital marketing, with a focus on email marketing and social media strategy.
- Proficiency in email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp, Wordlfy, Prospect2, Constant Contact) and social media management platforms.
- Experience with CRM such as Tessitura.
- Proactive and creative problem-solving with an ability to be both strategic and tactical when implementing solutions.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence and cultural competency. Ability to work with a wide range of people and personalities.
- Creative mindset with a strong eye for design and visual storytelling.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and antiracism.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with SEO and SEM strategies is a plus.
