About Turning Green:

Turning Green is a global student-led movement devoted to cultivating a healthy, just, resilient planet through education and advocacy around climate justice, environmental sustainability, and public health. We educate, empower, and mobilize elementary, middle, high school, college and graduate students to become visionary catalysts for sustainable change and positive social impact in their lives, school campuses, and local communities.

About Project Green Challenge:

For fourteen years, Project Green Challenge has empowered thousands of students across the globe to embark on a lifelong climate action journey and lead change in their communities.

Project Green Challenge is a powerful, diverse call to action with 30 days of eco-themed challenges each October since 2011. Built around conscious living, grassroots advocacy, informed consumption, and movement building, over 2m participants have transitioned from conventional to conscious by shifting mindsets and behavior. This program first consists of a 30-day gamified online challenge. At the end of the 30 days, up to 14 finalists are selected from global participants to attend the PGC Finals in San Francisco, CA and begin the next phase of their Climate Action Projects. They will give their final presentations in April 2026 via Zoom.

About the Position:

We are looking for motivated, inspired, and passionate recent undergraduate, graduate and post graduate students to help coordinate and execute the 15th Annual Project Green Challenge. Tasks break down into communications, outreach and engagement, challenge writing and research, and event coordination and logistics:

Communications

Our Comms team works across TG social media platforms, curating and creating content, graphics, collaterals, and monthly newsletter.

Internship roles include:

  1. Designing digital campaigns around TG programs, relevant themes, holidays, current events, our partners, and relevant news topics
  2. Planning, writing, and editing original pieces for the bi- monthly newsletter and website
  3. Creating, sharing and publishing content, digital assets, and outreach materials for Project Green Challenge

Outreach and Engagement

Our outreach team engages current and new partners to support our programs and conducts student outreach to encourage global sign-ups for PGC 2025.

Internship roles include:

  1. New non-profit partner outreach and engagement
  2. New corporate partner outreach and engagement
  3. Strategy development for student participant outreach and engagement
  4. Daily prize outreach and curation
  5. Data mapping projects on program engagement and impact

Challenge Writing and Research

Every day, a unique challenge is unveiled at 6am PST. Challenges are educational in nature, designed to equip our students with the knowledge about a specific environmental theme. They consist of an overview on the topic (with links to more resources), four additional educational resources - a TED talk, an infographic, a video, and a song of the day – ahead of the day’s Green, Greener, and Greenest challenges.

Each challenge is live for 24 hours, inviting participants to complete actions and upload content to acquire points and prizes. Deliverables include photos, videos, creative and written pieces that are uploaded on the PGC site, as well as shared across social platforms.

Internship roles include:

  1. Challenge research, updating and editing
  2. Development of 30-days of themed resources

Event Coordinator for Project Green Challenge Finals

After the 30-day challenge in October, 14 finalists are invited to join us in San Francisco in November for a transformational, all-expenses-paid climate summit that brings together outstanding PGC participants and like-minded peers with an esteemed group of speakers, mentors, ambassadors, and partners to support next gen leaders with the tools and resources to take climate action.

Internship roles include:

  1. Helping to coordinate lodging, catering, and site visits
  2. Designing final program schedule
  3. Facilitating communication between finalists and the Turning Green team to share relevant program information.
  4. Speaker research and outreach
