Human Resources Generalist
Position Overview
The Human Resources Generalist position reports directly to the Vice President, Human Resources and assists with the following functions: Employee relations, talent acquisition, onboarding and offboarding, benefits, performance management, training and development, culture, rewards and recognition, and compliance.
This position requires a critical thinking, self-starting human resources professional who has a minimum of two years in a human resources or talent acquisition function. Experience within the distribution or manufacturing industry and proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus.
This position will contribute to the coordination, development and maintenance of policies, procedures and programs designed to ensure that an adequately trained, compensated, and motivated workforce is available to meet the company's current and future organizational needs while closely adhering to all local, state, and federal employment laws and best practices.
Position Responsibilities
Employee Relations:
- Builds strong working relationships, demonstrates a high-level of integrity, and establishes a proactive service-minded approach to internal human resources.
- Objectively and confidentially addresses routine employee relations matters, investigates where appropriate, and provides appropriate recommendations. Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within HR field, including knowledge of local, state and federal employment law.
- Provides guidance and support to managers in administering policies and procedures. Objectively coaches managers on dealing with employee issues as well as managing and motivating for performance.
- Reviews and approves any disciplinary actions to ensure consistency, proper documentation, and due process. Assists managers during performance, disciplinary, or termination meetings.
- Maintains exceptional documentation of issues and coaches managers on documentation best practices.
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding:
- Supports efforts to position the company as an employer of choice in the marketplace and maintains a positive public employment brand through exceptional talent interactions.
- Builds relationships with temporary employment agencies and maintains necessary staffing levels through temporary staff augmentation.
- Maintains the requisitions and postings for internal/external positions. Tracks open positions, time to hire and cost to hire metrics for positions assigned.
- Sources and screens applicants and candidates. Conducts telephone or in-person interviews as needed. Coordinates the interview process.
- Coordinates pre-employment requirements, including reference checks, drug tests, and background checks. Initiates onboarding and benefit selection within the HRIS.
- Prepares for new employee by facilitating technical setup with IT and our Office Administrative Assistant and partnering with the hiring manager to create an onboarding training schedule.
- Maintains current and accurate position descriptions.
Performance Management and Employee Development:
- Assists with driving the performance review process and ongoing performance management activities, including setting/tracking goals.
- Guides managers and employees in creating Individual Development Plans to drive future growth and skill building.
- Coordinates and/or facilitates onsite training activities.
- Drives participation in our online training program (KnowledgeCity) by creating monthly promotions and collaborating with department managers on training/development needs.
HR Administration and Operations:
- Assists with benefit open enrollment periods. Answers benefit questions and assists with resolving issues. Participates in system testing.
- Assists with the maintenance of all HR records in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Assists with updating employee handbook policies and related procedures and agreements.
- Participates in pertinent safety programs, including all related meetings, committees, trainings, and reporting.
- Ensures regulatory posting compliance.
Culture:

- Develops and distributes quarterly company newsletter.
- Partners with the Office Administrative Assistant and/or planning committees to plan and coordinate employee events, rewards, and recognition.
- Oversees recognition programs to increase performance and engagement.
- Assists with the administration of engagement surveys.
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience.
- Human Resources certification a plus (PHR, SHRM-CP).
- Two years minimum experience in a human resources function or talent acquisition role.
- Experience within the distribution, or manufacturing industry is a strong plus.
- Broad-based experience in one or more facets of human resources required. Specific areas may include talent acquisition, onboarding, engagement, compensation and benefits, rewards and recognition, training and development, and compliance.
- Must have updated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Continuous keyboard and screen usage for several hours a day.
- Capable of standing or sitting for several hours a day.

- Regular, reliable and predictable onsite attendance necessary.

The annualized base salary for this position is: $55K - $70K. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.
