Essential Responsibilities
The Associate, Editorial and Communications will join the George W. Bush Presidential Center to support our ongoing editorial, public engagement, and media relations work. This position is a non-remote position at the Bush Center in Dallas. The specific responsibilities include:
Publications
- Support all Bush Center publications, in particular The Catalyst: A Journal of Ideas from the Bush Institute, as well as the Five for Friday email newsletter, subject-area newsletters, The Strategerist podcast, and short and long form content
- Work alongside publication owners to schedule interviews with internal and external experts, select and license images, create headlines / leads, select key quotes, curate related content, and build the work into the Bush Center’s CMS
- Write and produce content in line with the Bush Center’s mission, particularly for its Public Engagement work, including but not limited to compelling web and advertisement copy
- Work with the Business Intelligence Analyst to identify key reporting metrics and ensure delivery of reports while building recommendations based on the data
- Manage timelines and deadlines, including tracking and reviewing the publication and events calendars
- Complete other duties as assigned or necessary
Content distribution
- Work closely with the communications team to coordinate promotional efforts for The Catalyst, including writing and producing issue email alerts, coordinating social efforts, and helping to identify other potential opportunities.
Media Relations
- Focused on the Bush Center’s public engagement mission, build local media relationships that enable effective story pitching and positive media coverage for Bush Center programming, events, and museum exhibits.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 2-3 years professional experience in content production and media relations
- Strong written communication skills, with a knack for taking complex ideas and making them accessible and compelling to a broad range of audiences
- Evidence an exceptionally strong attention to detail and a commitment to highest standards of quality
- Understanding of SEO basics
- Familiarity with AP Style
- Comfort with analytics – pulling reports, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and delivering reports
- Strong verbal communication skills and professionalism
- Strong computer skills, including basic photo and video editing and entering content into a CMS
- HTML/CSS skill a strong plus. Javascript, PHP a plus.
