The Director of Communications and Public Engagement provides strategic vision and leadership for all communication and public engagement efforts at the Central Carolina Community Foundation. We’re seeking an experienced, highly skilled communications professisonal who enjoys high-level vision coupled with hands-on implementation. This newly established role is critical in enhancing the Foundation's visibility, reputation, and influence across the Midlands region. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Director collaborates closely with senior leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy, effectively telling the story of the Foundation and the community it serves. The Director will execute a wide range of communications and media strategies to engage, educate, and inspire diverse audiences.
Job Functions:
Strategic Communications and Implementation
• Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to support the Foundation’s goals, including short- and long-term campaigns and initiatives.
• Identify key stakeholder audiences and create targeted online and offline strategies to enhance
engagement, foster collaboration, and advance organizational priorities.
• Develop and implement a media relations strategy for the Foundation, serving as the main point of contact for media and building positive organizational relationships with editors, reporters, and other influential media professionals.
• Develop and implement design and content strategy and development for Foundation’s web, digital, and social media channels, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
• Lead the messaging, content development, design, and production of print and marketing
materials, including reports, newsletters, ads, donor and advisor materials, and brochures.
• Create and produce visual and written content for all platforms.
• Strategically place advertising and sponsorships to reach key audiences with targeted messaging.
• Oversee and implement all communications activities related to special projects and initiatives including giving day and month campaigns.
• Set metrics to assess the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategies and activities, and regularly monitor and evaluate these metrics to inform decision-making.
Leadership and Organizational Support
• Serve as a senior communications advisor to the Foundation’s senior leaders and Trustees,
providing executive communications support for presentations, articles, speeches, and other
materials that enhance the Foundation’s thought leadership.
• Participate in general organizational leadership, strategic planning and meetings of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
• Recruit, supervise and oversee the work of communications interns, volunteers, and contractors.
• Represent the Foundation at external and community events as required and appropriate.
• Develop and monitor communications and marketing budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
• Develop and execute plans to engage, educate, and inspire key stakeholders.
• Lead the planning and execution of events and convenings in collaboration with the CEO and
leadership.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, partners, and stakeholders to promote and advance the Foundation’s mission and initiatives.
The Director of Communications and Public Engagement is a mission-driven individual who works collaboratively, demonstrates initiative, and is both a high-level leader and a highly skilled implementer. The Director works with the entire Central Carolina Community Foundation team in service to our Board of Trustees, fundholders, nonprofits, and community at-large, always supporting the Foundation’s mission and values.
Ideal Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, visual arts, public relations, marketing, journalism, or
related field, master’s degree a plus
• 8+ years of communications, marketing, or public relations experience
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Graphic and visual design skills and abilities
• Experience developing and implementing comprehensive communications plans including
budgeting, project management, and successful track record working with vendors and partners
• Experience with content development and creative project management and execution including
social media management, HTML newsletter production, content management tools, graphic
design, photography and video production
• Experience in media relations and public relations
• A record of delivering work products on time, on budget, and with high quality
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite products (including Adobe Illustrator and InDesign), website
content management systems, and email marketing tools with the ability to quickly learn and use
these and other tools
• Event planning experience a plus
• Donor relations experience a plus
Other Requirements:
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle to use in performance of job. Position requires
some travel within South Carolina.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Salary & Benefits:
• Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
