The Georgia Department of Labor is accepting applications to fill the Communications Specialist 2 position in the Communications Unit at the Georgia Department of Labor Headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Ga.
Position Overview
The GDOL Communications Specialist 3 assists with special projects assigned by the Director of Communications/Chief Marketing Officer and the Commissioner. This position collaborates closely with the leadership team to understand key initiatives and goals, ensuring they are communicated effectively to both internal and external audiences.
Essential Function And Responsibilities
- Assists in writing, editing, and publishing monthly press releases.
- Collaborates with the Director of Communications/Chief Marketing Officer to strategically plan and manage the social media content calendar, while planning, writing, designing, and producing content to enhance the agency's public presence across platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and the department website.
- Leads reporting and analytics for social, print, and media content.
- Participates in collaborative meetings with the Communications team and other internal stakeholders for marketing campaign development, activation, and reporting.
- Supports executive projects at the discretion of the Commissioner and the Director of Communications/Chief Marketing Officer.
- Collaborates with the Communications team on presentations, newsletters, annual reports, and other departmental publications, offering graphic design support, high-resolution digital images, in-house printing, and assistance with special projects across all departments.
- Contributes to the strategic planning and composition of the weekly agency news email, quarterly internal GDOL newsletter, and external newsletter.
- Oversees the Communications Department's official email to ensure that all relevant communications are efficiently directed to the appropriate person or department.
- Acts as a secondary media contact in the absence of the Director of Communications.
- Serves as a backup photographer for agency events, capturing high-quality images for use in various communications and marketing materials.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Possess great interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people.
- Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively with others in a team or group environment.
- Ability to establish, build and maintain positive relationships to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in social media platforms
- Strong writing skills, both for media and technical audiences
- Experience in writing and publishing media announcements
- Experience with strategic communications

High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of communications or job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Communications Spec 1 (GSP040).
