PURPOSE OF CLASS:
At the UCHC, this position is responsible for the support and development of internal communications, publicity and marketing activities designed to promote programs, events, or services at all UConn Health locations, and serves as UConn Health brand resource in supporting initiatives utilizing multiple forms of media.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May lead/supervise lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Works with UConn University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) leadership to identify and develop, manage, and implement public educational outreach programs that introduce UCEDD services and provides timely and pertinent education and information.
- Manages, supports and develops internal/external communications, including newsletters, daily broadcast announcements, emergency communications updates, etc.
- Serves as a resource to UConn UCEDD on the development of websites, videos and print materials in accordance with UConn Health brand standards.
- Maintain the UCEDD marketing and promotion presence on the various project websites.
- May utilize brand templates and assist with content development when appropriate.
- Collaborate, as requested, with University Communications on template creation, collateral review, etc.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff to coordinate and manage communication functions and promotional opportunities for the UCEDD and for the Center for Equity.
- Develops video content, including faculty videos, presenter and student testimonials, and videos intended for the internal audience.
- Develops brochures and other print collateral to support campus-specific communications such as brochures, faculty biographical sketches and/or cards, event flyers, maps, etc.
- Identifies and manages internal news stories and facilitates coverage, including writing, editing, and publishing to UCEDD updates/AUCD updates/OSEP updates and other appropriate web pages; arranges for photography, video, and audio when appropriate.
- Maintain and grow a database of newsletter subscribers.
- Seek out and execute opportunities to enhancing the CT UCEDD public image
- Participate in and contribute to regular Center team meetings.
- Supervises and trains others as assigned, including assistants, student workers and volunteers.
- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the UCEDD vision and mission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
- Considerable knowledge of marketing and communication methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of graphic design and media production.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Considerable oral and written communication skills.
- Creative thinking and writing ability.
- Ability to work under pressure or deadlines and conflicting priorities.
- Supervisory ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Seven (7) years professional experience in communications, advertising, marketing or public relations.
Substitutions Allowed:
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's Degree.
A Master's Degree in Communications or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the general experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on federal and state grants.
- Experience working with children and families with disabilities.
SPECIAL EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience as a Communication Specialist, Public Relations Officer or a similar role in communications.
- Experience with website development and maintenance.
SCHEDULE: 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with a 30-minute unpaid meal break.
