Background:
The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE) is Connecticut’s equivalent of the National Academies. It is a non-profit institution founded in 1976 by a Special Act of the Connecticut General Assembly. Its mission is to provide expert guidance on science and technology to the people and the state of Connecticut and to promote the application of science and technology to human welfare and economic well-being. It pursues three goals:
· To provide information and advice on science and technology to the government, industry and people of Connecticut.
· To initiate activities that foster science and engineering education of the highest quality, and to promote interest in science and engineering on the part of the public, especially young people.
· To provide opportunities for both specialized and inter-disciplinary discourse among its own members, members of the broader technical community, and the community at large.
Assistant Director Responsibilities:
Join the Academy as a key staff member reporting to the CASE Executive Director with the opportunity to learn all aspects of its programs and operations. You will work closely with the CASE Executive Director but be expected to show your initiative in accomplishing assigned tasks. You will be engaged with the state’s leaders in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM), for the purpose of informing, promoting and celebrating STEMM in Connecticut. This position includes the opportunity for professional growth.
· Primary Responsibilities:
Ø Provide staff support and assistance to the CASE Governing Council and standing committees.
Ø Member Election and Appointment Activities: Facilitate the annual new member election process, the officer and council elections, and technical board chair appointments.
Ø Financial System Responsibilities: Lead the annual dues processing, endowment fund and operating fund solicitations, and maintain member records.
Ø Technical Boards: Serve as staff liaison between the technical boards and the executive committee.
Ø Academy Communications: Manage CASE’s communications, including the monthly member newsletter and work closely with CASE’s communication’s consultant on updates to the website, managing the bi-monthly CASE Learning and Living STEM in CT podcast series, the CASE Bulletin, and oversee CASE’s LinkedIN page and other social media activities.
Ø Academy Member-related Technologies: Manage electronic tools used to efficiently operate the Academy, including the member database, bulk email service, and survey instruments.
· Secondary Responsibilities include support for
Ø the Academy’s Annual and Business Meetings
Ø Student Awards and Recognition Program
Ø the Connecticut Medals of Science and Technology Process
Ø Financial Recordkeeping
Ø Implementation of policies and programs as directed by the Governing Council of the Academy
Ø Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director
Applicant Requirements/Qualifications/Background:
- Technically literate with considerable oral and written communication skills
- Computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks
- Commitment to serving the public and CASE’s members
- Managerial Aptitude
- Ability to learn new skills and knowledge
CASE offers competitive pay and benefits. A hybrid work schedule is available with the ideal mix of remote and office to be determined. Travel and evening hours are limited.
