The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization responding to the need for low-cost housing. Our mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides social services in housing for low-income persons, especially those who are older, who have experienced homelessness and who live with mental illness.
Job Summary
The communications coordinator (CC) will be a proactive, creative, and organized support person for our marketing and communications team. The communications Coordinator will work closely with the Associate Director of Communications to manage our digital presence, develop materials for internal and external communications, and support various engagement initiatives across WSFSSH’s buildings and programs.
Please Note: This is a Part-time, 15-20 hours per week, January through June 2025, with the possibility of becoming a permanent role.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist in planning, writing, and managing e-blasts, e-newsletters, and the development of WSFSSH’s quarterly newsletter. Regularly update and maintain the organization’s website to reflect current events, announcements, and organizational news.
- Keep WSFSSH’s social media channels up to date with news and announcements, actively engaging our online community and providing input for creative marketing strategies and social media campaigns.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across WSFSSH buildings and programs to source information for a monthly events calendar, distributing a comprehensive schedule of organizational events.
- Support building staff with building centered communications as needed.
- Update and manage WSFSSH’s feedback platform, coordinating responses and following up with timely updates to staff.
- Design and create ad-hoc marketing materials, including posters, event invitations, and other graphics for organizational use.
- Track and follow up on communications requests, goals and responsibilities that emerge from team discussions.
Required Knowledge Skills, & Abilities
- Proven experience in communications, marketing, or a related field
- Proficiency with graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Canva) highly desirable
- Familiarity with email marketing tools, website management, and/or HTML is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and with team members to complete tasks on time
- Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to think creatively
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently and within a team environment

Required And Preferred Education, Experience And Credentials
- An Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related fields
- At least one year of copywriting and editing experience
- At least one year of experience managing social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and knowledge of content management systems (e.g., Wordpress)
- Enthusiasm for WSFSSH’s mission and a commitment to quality service
Physical Requirements
- Physical demands include primarily required to sit for extended periods at a desk using standard office equipment with occasional walking and standing, using a computer keyboard and mouse, and lifting light items as needed.
