Basic Function
Reporting to the Senior Director for University Communications & Public Relations, this position plays a vital role in leading the effort to envision, craft, and distribute University content to diverse audiences, as well as support enrollment management and institutional advancement goals. The Content Strategy Director must be an excellent writer, proven leader, and creative thinker who can manage a variety of projects from concept to execution.
Actively collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to identify strategic communications opportunities and maintain the University’s brand. Writes, edits, and manages content for various communications platforms. Plans and develops innovative content for the University’s primary social media accounts. Trains and advises the managers of secondary University social media accounts.
Takes a lead role in developing and implementing the University’s media relations goals and writing news content. Leverages news across multiple internal and external communications channels. Serves as a secondary University media spokesperson, along with the Senior Director for University Communications & Public Relations.
Essential Functions
- Leads and measures the strategy for sharing organic content on the University's primary social media accounts and produces the campus-wide Bulletin e-newsletter.
- Works closely with Senior Director to develop goals for the University's media relations program, serves as the primary news writer, and implements key responsibilities in the media strategy, including crafting media pitches, coordinating media events, and leading media training for faculty, staff, and students, as appropriate.
- Serves as editorial advisor and content strategist for alumni engagement and advancement communications in partnership with members of the Institutional Advancement team.
- Collaborates with the Marketing team to develop and build on content used for student recruitment materials, advertising campaigns, the University website and more.
- Serves as assistant editor for Universitas, the University's annual magazine, in developing the overall direction and writing the content in partnership with the Senior Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
Experience: Five to seven years of experience in public relations, communications, or journalism preferred. Experience in higher education, photography, graphic design, web content management, and video production preferred.
Skills/Aptitude: Excellent research, writing, and editing skills for a wide range of communications, including social media, web copy, speeches, emergency notifications, and internal communications. Strong ability to report social media metrics and analytics. Strong project management skills to achieve multiple responsibilities and competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment. Excellent interpersonal skills with an enthusiastic, flexible, and professional demeanor that represents NDMU’s core values. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders to implement the University’s communications goals. Photography, graphic design, web content management, and video production skills desired.
