The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to serve as the Program Director for the online Healthcare Compliance Certificate Program (the “HCC program”). This is a part-time, regular position with 40% effort and benefits commensurate with that of a part-time, non-tenure stream faculty member. There are no educational benefits associated with this role.
Required Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree; at least three years’ legal and/or experience in the healthcare compliance field.
Recommended Qualifications: Prior teaching experience at the bachelor’s degree level or higher; familiarity with Canvas
Salary: $30,000, with additional compensation for course preparation and instruction in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement of the Faculty Union.
The HCC Program is a 5-course, 15-credit graduate certificate program offered online by the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. The HCC program delivers a comprehensive exploration of healthcare compliance, including law, ethics, best practices, and effective compliance program development and management. The courses are developed and taught by compliance experts.
The director of the HCC program works closely with Pitt’s Center for Teaching and Learning course designers, the law school’s director of online programs, and the marketing organization for the law school’s online programs. The director is the face of the program for key stakeholders including students and potential students, their organizations, program alumni, program faculty, and the HCCA. The director advocates for the program, and for its students, faculty, and alumni.
Responsibilities
Student support:
- Act as the main point of contact for organizations and potential students interested in the HCC program
- Be the main point of contact for program students for all questions other than specific course related questions
- Communicate regularly with students throughout the academic year
- Oversee the application process and make decisions on admissions with guidance from faculty and administration when needed
- Work with students when requested on resumes and job searches
- Outreach to alumni for program purposes
- Develop and provide support for students interested in sitting for professional certification exams
Faculty Support
- Support HCC Online faculty members especially related to the online program systems, student issues, questions regarding content or technology
- Coordinate the Capstone course, which is taught by a variety of instructors
- Recruit new faculty when needed and manage the new faculty appointment process
- Oversee the re-appointment of adjunct faculty, including payment amount and schedules
- Hire teaching assistants when needed, and oversee teaching assistant use and time
Alumni Support
- Maintain relationships with program alumni, through informative emails, job announcements, and newsletter
- Work with alumni when requested on resumes and job searches
- Develop and maintain data on students and alumni to track the scope and expertise of our cohorts, and to use in marketing
- Ensure alumni have access and knowledge about special online events at the law school
Marketing Support
- Work with an outside marketing company to develop and refine program offerings and marketing campaigns
- Attend compliance conference events for recruiting purposes
- Community outreach for recruiting purposes
- Maintain relationship with HCCA, which accredits the HCC program through the Compliance Certification Board
- Develop speaker events (which offer CLE and CEU credit) for recruiting purposes as well as for the benefit of students and alumni. Work with University of Pittsburgh alumni affairs, law school administration, marketing, and IT to ensure successful programs
- Work with Compliance Certification Board (CCB) to obtain CEU credit for speaker events
