Manager, Content Development
VisitPITTSBURGH is a tourism development organization dedicated to expanding the tourism economy across Allegheny County. The organization generates positive economic impact across the tourism verticals of business events, sports, and leisure travel. VisitPITTSBURGH achieves its goals, including ensuring the region of certain economic benefits, through the combined efforts of all team members throughout the organization.
Reporting to the Director, Website Development, this position works closely with all VisitPITTSBURGH verticals to cultivate and manage VisitPITTSBURGH’s web sites and digital footprint. This individual is responsible for implementing new online strategies and regularly identifies, evaluates, and updates online and print materials so that they are on brand and support the mission and marketing plans.
Essential Functions
- Writes, edits, and ensures the timely and strategic publication of all digital content for VisitPITTSBURGH.com including, but not limited to Events, Partner Descriptions, Listings, Blogs, and Landing Page content, for publishing across VisitPITTSBURGH.com in a timely, accurate manner.
- Creates social media content as needed, working in tandem with the Manager, Social Media
- Maintains a strategic Content Calendar, collaborating with Manager, Social Media; Director of Marketing; Manager, Digital Marketing; and others across the VisitPITTSBURGH organization to ensure timely coverage and promotion of key events, seasonal themes, and other newsworthy milestones in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County
- Suggests and implements new creative themes to promote the region’s attractions and our partner organizations, on an ongoing basis
- Ensures VisitPITTSBURGH’s website and social media channels are free of outdated information, errors, misleading information, and expired listings, on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure content is displayed accurately, readably, and visitors experience an optimal UX.
- Benchmarks with other destination marketing organizations to ensure VisitPITTSBURGH is utilizing best practices and optimal tools to promote our destination
- Develop and build SEO-friendly, shareable content optimized for traffic and brand engagement, measuring, monitoring, and adjusting for optimization.
- Conducts ongoing research and monitoring of all events, trends, and newsworthy stories to produce new and ongoing features, stories, listings, and other content to serve all internal departments, and all 650+ partner organizations of VisitPITTSBURGH.
- Continually curates local, regional and industry events and other content to ensure website remains timely and relevant.
- Writes, edits, and post event listings in VisitPITTSBURGH’s print collateral publications including, but not limited to Pittsburgh Insider’s Guide, Tri-Annual See & Do Guides, Maps, and other specialized publications.
- Writes and edits monthly newsletter content targeted to business, sports, and leisure visitors and partners.
Website Development
- Measures and analyzes website and social media performance metrics and make recommendations for new or updated content accordingly.
- Manages social media and other channels as needed during Social Media Manager’s absences.
- Manages the activities of seasonal undergraduate interns and interim outside contracted workers as needed.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director, Website Development, and the Chief Marketing Officer.
Skills & Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree in writing, journalism, communications, English, marketing, advertising or a related field
- 5-7 years’ experience creating marketing, promotional, editorial and/or advertising content, within an agency or within the marketing department of a similar organization
- Passion for compelling storytelling, writing, and editing, with a portfolio of samples available for review
- Familiarity with SEO and keyword best practices to optimize search
- Experience in using current desktop publishing software
- Experience in tracking and reporting performance results and KPIs
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability and willingness to attend special events outside normal business hours/days of the week as necessary for content coverage (10- 15%); minimal travel outside Pittsburgh/Allegheny County
This role is exempt and operates under a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of 3 days in-office required.
