The Director, Mission Delivery (program director) position exists to provide the development and facilitation of programs and services
specifically designed to support and assist poverty-stricken, food insufficient, and/or nutritionally vulnerable individuals in our community through food rescue. The program director leads and supervises all program staff to ensure collective achievement of the organization’s mission. Additionally, this position exists to facilitate the development and facilitation of community partnerships, collaborations and special initiatives
with community health organizations, food donors, grassroots organizations, and social service providers in order to maximize Waste Not’s impact on the community at large.
Position Duties & Functions -
Manage the Program & Mission Delivery Department:
o Develop, implement, and track program structure, goals, measures, and outcomes to ensure ease of
reporting the success of the program
o Develop process to respond to, collect, and distribute out-of-schedule and/or large donations
o Work with Volunteer Coordinator to train new volunteers related to the food distribution center
o Work with the Executive Director/CEO to research, write, and submit grant proposals ensuring the
program meets or exceeds all grant identified program metrics and delivers on all promises outlined in grant proposals
o Ensure Waste Not Want Not is up-to-date on all certifications, applications, and other requirements of food donors and partners
o Ensure the equitable and timely allocation of donated food (and other items) among our food recipient partners daily
o Participate in preparation of the annual program budget
o Oversee expenses related to program budget and ensure expenses do not exceed budget parameters
o Purchase necessary materials to execute the program and oversee maintenance
vendors
o Ensure equitable application and adherence to program department policies & procedures
o Participate in program development strategy meetings of the board of directors
o Communicate strategic goals to program team and ensure team achieves desired program outcomes and targets
o Work with Executive Director and Volunteers to coordinate annual garage sale(s)
o Work with the volunteer coordinator to ensure shifts, pick-ups, and special projects are adequately staffed
o Hire, motivate, train, coach, and supervise a team of paid professional program staff
o Maintain all program related building and equipment including refrigeration, trailer, food distribution center, and truck.
o Ensure continuous quality improvement by collecting and reviewing feedback from volunteers,
community organizations, and industry-wide best practices
o Plan, design, build, and maintain strong collaborative relationships with volunteers, food donors, food recipients, and the community at large to support current status and future growth of the program
o Work with the Executive Director/CEO and Development staff to ensure adequate food donors are available to meet the needs of the community
Ensure Waste Not Want Not’s programs are well-established, highly trusted, and well-known in the grants and Northeast Florida community by:
o Developing, implementing, and maintaining systems that track our impact at the macro and micro levels
o Plan and execute quarterly food recipient meetings to insure timely sharing of information, feedback, and opportunities
o Write and distribute monthly food recipient newsletter to keep hunger partners up-to-date on key program initiatives, issues, or changes
o Networking extensively and participating on community boards, tasks forces, and workgroups related to hunger and poverty across our 14-county service area
o Become a subject matter expert/top of mind expert
o Work with Administration Coordinator to promote initiatives through multiple media platforms such as
YouTube, Podcasts, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
o Participating in monthly program team meetings with volunteer leads to provide updates, progress,
and receive feedback
o Maintaining accurate daily logs, monthly reports, and evaluations of services
• Monitor hunger and poverty environment for opportunities to grow and/or strengthen Waste Not Want Not’s programming in the food rescue, hunger, and poverty space
Skills & Abilities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
- Must have strong command of technology including ability to develop spreadsheets, navigate CRM software, and use and train on use of technology
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with comfort level speaking before large groups
- Ability to lift, move, transfer, carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel up to 90 miles a day round trip
- Must have reliable transportation and highly flexible schedule
- Must be prompt; timely and responsive to needs of fast-paced organization
- Must be able to handle confidential information discreetly
Knowledge & Education
- Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related health field preferred
- Strong knowledge of food insecurity, community health, health education and health promotion, logistics
- Depth of knowledge of Northeast Florida’s nonprofit sector
- Definitive understanding of community collaboration, building community partnerships, developing mutual relationships
- Knowledge of program growth and development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement
Experience
- Minimum (2) years’ experience in health education, community health, or non-profit management
Required Licensure
- Florida Driver’s License
