Community members can access and engage with a variety of blog posts, articles, films, panel discussions, live events, interactive courses, and opportunities for peer-to-peer connection.
Communications Associate
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Communications Associate to join our growing Communications team. In this role, you will support the Communications Director and fellow Communications Associate in executing a range of communications activities, from content creation to strategic planning. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about storytelling, community building, and social impact and is eager to grow their PR, marketing, and project management skills in a collaborative environment.
Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Content Development: Create and edit engaging content for social media, newsletters, and the EMA Foundation website. Ensure that all content aligns with the organization’s mission and messaging.
- Project Management: Oversee tracking and scheduling of web, social media, and newsletter content to sustain a streamlined communications strategy
- Partner Collaboration: Work directly with partner organizations to develop and deliver tailored communications support, including asset creation and technical assistance.
- Communications Planning: Contribute to the planning and implementation of EMA Foundation’s communications strategies, ensuring proactive and consistent outreach.
- Social Media Strategy: Collaborate on the development and execution of social media strategies. Identify and highlight key dates, events, and trends to increase engagement and reach.
- Podcast Production: Assist with the production and editing of podcast episodes, working closely with the podcast producer to manage and expedite content creation.
- Website Administration: Support the maintenance and updating of the EMA Foundation website, including the management of Webflow administrative tasks to ensure a seamless user experience.
- Institutional Inbox Management: Oversee communications (donation-related questions, general inquiries, etc.) received through hello@ema-foundation.org by implementing a process for consistent inbox monitoring and timely message response.
- Newsletter Management: Aid in the launch and ongoing management of the EMA Foundation newsletter, including list development, content creation, and distribution.
- Special Projects: Participate in various special projects, such as the development of the e-learning platform, where you will have the opportunity to engage in wireframing and prototyping.
Necessary Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field, preferably in the nonprofit or social sector
- Proficiency in content creation, including basic graphic design (experience with Canva, Figma, and/or Adobe Creative Suite is an advantage)
- Strong familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication tools (e.g., Hootsuite), and project management tools (e.g., Asana)
- Experience with website management, particularly in Webflow, is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
- Passion for social justice, equity, and community building
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of public relations principles and practices
- Experience with audio and video editing tools (e.g., Descript, Riverside, Premiere Pro)
- Skills in wireframing and prototyping for web-based projects
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
Job Type: This position is full-time, 40-hours a week, exempt.
Location: This position is fully remote with the invitation for in-person meetings and events; as such a computer and consistent access to the internet are required.
Team: EMA Foundation adopts a remote-first approach with a team of 15 staff members located in different cities across the United States, including but not limited to Juneau, AK; Boston, MA; New York City; and Southern California.
Compensation and Benefits: Base annual salary is $68,000 with an additional stipend of $5,000 paid in biweekly installments to cover incidental expenses (such as internet and cellphone) as well as any benefits not currently provided by EMA.
EMA Foundation is currently pursuing additional benefits options through our payroll provider and the employee will be notified when that infrastructure exists.
