Title: Head of Ad Sales

Position Overview: State Affairs is looking for a dynamic and experienced Head of Ad Sales to lead our advertising sales efforts. This role is crucial for developing and executing our national advertising strategy, with a strong emphasis on policy-related advertising. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and managing ad sales teams, growing revenue in both local and national markets, and successfully scaling a team from a few members to 10-20 professionals. This position will report directly to the founders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive advertising sales strategy to drive revenue growth, focusing on national advertising opportunities.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing ad sales team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and results.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners to maximize advertising revenue.
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities in policy advertising.
- Collaborate closely with the marketing and product teams to ensure alignment on messaging and customer outreach.
- Set clear performance metrics and targets for the ad sales team, regularly assessing performance and optimizing strategies as needed.
- Provide regular updates to the executive team on ad sales performance, market dynamics, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in advertising sales, with a focus on national markets and a strong understanding of local dynamics.
- Proven success in building and scaling an ad sales team from a small group to 10-20 professionals.
- Specific experience in selling newsletter ads and event sponsorships
- Strong understanding of the advertising landscape and policy-related advertising.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with a track record of developing key client partnerships.
- Strong analytical skills to assess market trends and drive data-informed decisions.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented, with a history of meeting or exceeding sales targets.

- Experience in policy advertising is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with advertising technology and platforms.
