Overview
The Director of Owned Media will play a key role in managing and executing all owned media initiatives within the GROW community. This includes daily interactions with retail brands and technology providers, overseeing the GROW newsletter, managing a vibrant Slack group, creating detailed research reports, and leading an outsourced content team to drive engagement on social media and blogs. The ideal candidate is a highly organized communicator, skilled in content creation and community management, with a keen understanding of retail and technology landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Research Calls with GROW Community: Conduct regular calls with retail brands and technology providers to gather insights and information to shape GROW’s content and research initiatives.
- Conduct Weekly Interviews for GROW Newsletter: Lead and manage interviews with key stakeholders from the GROW community for inclusion in the weekly newsletter. Ensure engaging and insightful content is captured during interviews.
- GROW Newsletter Ownership: Take full ownership of the GROW newsletter, which includes writing, approving, and coordinating with the team to deliver it weekly. Work closely with internal teams to maintain high editorial standards and ensure timely delivery.
- GROW Slack Group Management: Oversee the GROW community Slack group, engaging with retail brands and event managers to keep the conversation lively and relevant. Ensure the platform remains a hub for insights, discussion, and community collaboration.
- Technology Provider Research Reports: Develop detailed research reports based on calls with technology providers, offering analysis, trends, and recommendations that serve the needs of the GROW community.
- Content Team Management: Lead and manage an outsourced content team responsible for creating and editing daily snippets for LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram. Ensure alignment with GROW’s content strategy and brand tone.
- Weekly Content Summary: Provide a comprehensive weekly summary of daily interview transcripts, offering key takeaways and insights that are relevant to the broader GROW community.
- Blog and Website Content: Oversee the publication of blog posts based on research calls, interviews, and insights. Ensure a steady stream of content that reflects GROW’s thought leadership in retail and technology.
Required skills & qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in content creation, community management, or related fields
- Strong understanding of retail and technology sectors
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage a content team and deliver high-quality, engaging content across various channels
- Proficient in newsletter platforms, social media management tools, and community platforms like Slack
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate research into actionable insights
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in or with retail brands and/or technology providers
- Familiarity with content marketing strategies and social media algorithms
- Knowledge of SEO best practices for blog posts and newsletters
