America's Test Kitchen is seeking a Copy Editor to join our team, based at our Test Kitchen headquarters in Boston’s Seaport District. This is a great opportunity to work with all aspects of the company, including the editorial, digital, social media, and marketing teams.
The ideal candidate has a passion for language, grammar, and copy style as well as cooking — leveraging these skills to help solidify our place as a dominant voice in the social media space.
Your Day-to-Day
- Copyedit Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country magazines (12 issues per year) at two key junctures in the editorial process
- Review/approve proofreader marks for Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country
- Copyedit up to 12 special-interest magazines per year
- Copyedit and fact-check product and equipment reviews
- Copyedit marketing materials
- Copyedit daily web articles
- Maintain the ATK style guide and write quarterly style newsletter
What You Bring To Our Team
- Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Fact-checking skills
- Basic understanding of K4/InCopy software or other similar desktop publishing program
- Familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of food and home cooking
- Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
- Experience in editing recipes
- Attention to detail
- Ability to meet key deadlines, including flexibility during peak workload periods
- Ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team
Education And Experience You Should Have
- BA/BS (or equivalent) in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field
- Three to four years of magazine or newspaper copy editing experience, along with some project management
- A culinary degree or professional cooking experience, while not a requirement, is a plus.
This position is located in our Boston, MA office in the Seaport district. It is the expectation that the person in this role will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) in the office and 2 days per week remotely.
