Policy Associate
The Parkside Group, New York’s leading full-service public affairs firm, is seeking two Policy Associates to join our growing government relations team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an industry-leading team and to work with experts representing Fortune 500 companies, major labor unions, and non-profit organizations before city and state governments.
The positions will report to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer.

Key Accountabilities:
Develop an in-depth knowledge of issue areas for a specialized group of client sectors.
Legislation:
- Review bills on the day of introduction and immediately send professional, clear emails to clients and colleagues with the relevant bill attached and synthesized bill descriptions.
- Once identified as a priority or issue of interest, track the relevant legislation as it develops and advances through the Council in real time. Be aware and communicative about all related Executive Orders and bill signings. Appropriately update colleagues in real time.
- Develop comprehensive bill lists based on type of client interest areas (non-profit, housing, employer law, etcetera). Update accordingly based on client feedback.
Hearing coverage:
- Preparation: Proactively review and immediately notify colleagues’ whose client portfolios will be impacted by City Council hearings.
- Coverage: While many hearings can be monitored online, we are seeking candidates who want to participate, network, and learn on the ground by attending events live when scheduling permits.
- Follow Up: Monitor Council site for relevant published testimony and transcripts to follow-up with clients.
Operations:
- Scheduling: Whether for large-scale advocacy days or multi-stakeholder planning meetings, scheduling support is an integral part of the role.
- Research: Conduct background research and analysis and be able to present to colleagues on findings, including, but not limited to testimony, background information for clients, information on elected officials, and legislative history.
- Writing Client Communications: Working with colleagues to compile a weekly newsletter and key policy Issue newsletters to clients, as needed.
Core Competencies:
- Exceptional ability to analyze and interpret information, policies, and regulations. This includes conducting research, synthesizing information quickly, and paying meticulous attention to details.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential to every part of this role and our team.
- Experience in managing projects, including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet software.
- Desire to be part of a fast-paced, energetic team and grow with our company.
Required Education & Experience:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study include public policy, political science, public administration, economics, sociology, or related areas.
- Two years of relevant experience in community work, policy analysis, or related activities.
- Ideal candidates will be proactive, exceptional communicators who are always on the lookout for process improvements and new ways of providing support and valuable information to our clients.
