Job Description
We are looking for an events manager with experience engaging in the local community across professional groups, educational institutions, and philanthropies.
You will be able to make a positive business and social impact by owning initiatives that focus on our community, building, and driving programs that advance D&I strategic priorities, supporting our communication initiatives and events, and ensuring the operational and strategic excellence.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive internal and external events
- Create internal communications such as newsletters, and external communications such as social media posts.
- Own and drive community programs and efforts to attract, retain, and empower technical talent in the DC Metro area.
- Enable community building and professional growth opportunities across the organization.
- Support efforts to expand our talent pipeline in new areas, especially cleared talent.
- Identify and develop relationships with local professional organizations, educational institutions, and technical communities to build brand as the employer of choice.
- Help develop and implement a DC metro area philanthropic initiative.
- Build and lead initiatives that advance D&I goals to recruit, retain, develop, and improve workplace culture for under-represented groups.
- Other job duties as required.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of events management experience developing, delivering, promoting, critically assessing, and continually improving programs for a large organization.
- 8+ years experience working with internal/external entities to drive community engagement, build brand, and/or attract and retain talent.
- Experience with Information Technology and products, in particular, to assist in communicating how we contribute to the everyday experiences and success of the people in our community is preferred.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written communications skills and a sharp eye for visual branding and storytelling.
- Excellent verbal communications and interpersonal skills.
- Strong data analytical skills.
- Executive presence, leadership skills, and ability to influence without direct authority.

Typical Day in the Role
- Purpose of the Team – The sponsor is the director of Employee and Communication strategy for the offices in Reston VA. The team brings people together, helps with new hire onboarding, and helps set up events like happy hours. The team also works with the community, forging partnerships with local non-profits and universities.
- Key projects – This role will largely support event management: internal events, employee engagement and morale, and well as external events such as employee 5k or charity events, intern event or hackathons at colleges universities, work with non-profits, and take charge of event logistics. The role will also involve content creation such as monthly newsletters.
- Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm - A typical day will vary, but the role will include:
- Going through email and notes, creating/editing an outline for new content/newsletter, set up/conduct a call with external partners, make arrangements for events by reaching out to external partners, input activities in a tracker, drive and schedule employee events, draft invites, etc.

Candidate Requirements
- Years of Experience Required – 8+ years of experience as an events manager. The role will be relatively senior as they will be independently driving events, however it will not be so senior that they will have full reign over the event planning strategy. They will be able to take part in strategy discussions further down the line, but must still be comfortable with more administrative
- Degrees or certifications required – none
- Disqualifiers – Candidates without experience with event planning in a corporate environment will not be considered.
- Best vs. Average – The ideal candidate is a jack of all trades and has a lot of previous experience in various fields working with various external teams. Prior experience with universities and non-profits on top of significant corporate experience in a plus.
- Performance Indicators – Performance will be measured by the ability to run events, ideally they will start independently managing events within first six weeks. The role will use event feedback from surveys and anecdotal feedback to measure success of their events. They will also be measured by their efficiency, ability to learn from mistakes.
