Summary Of Position
Under the direction of the Visit McKinney Executive Director and working closely with the Visit McKinney Senior Communications & Media Specialist, coordinates innovative digital marketing campaigns; provides input on marketing initiatives from conception through completion; and acts as primary Destination Tourism social media content creator for McKinney. The primary objective of this position is to support the Senior Communications & Media Specialist through digital content creation. This position will aid Visit McKinney through creative storytelling and must have an eagerness to learn and share the stories that make our destination unique for visitors and residents alike. This position is for a well-rounded communications professional with a strong overall communication and writing background, and experience in all forms of digital media (social, video, web) as well as print materials, media relations, and marketing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plays a key role in the Visit McKinney Communications team’s implementation of the organization’s destination marketing plan through digital communications strategies.
- Coordinates social media content and other digital communications methods to promote McKinney as a destination.
- Assists the Senior Communications & Media Specialist with the Weekend Update Newsletter production, Visit Widget App updates, website (CMS and CRM), and sharing/repurposing blog content where applicable.
- Provides input on the development of relevant, integrated, and cost-effective cross media marketing campaigns to deliver creative excellence against campaign goals.
- Ensures creative content delivers on overarching strategy and brand strategy.
- Works in coordination with the Visit McKinney Senior Communications & Media Specialist to ensure that content is distributed through the most effective channels.
- Coordinates the day-to-day delivery of Visit McKinney’s digital creative content.
- Researches advertising opportunities and works with the Senior Communications & Media Specialist on digital advertising buys and promoted posts.
- Communicates with a variety of constituent audiences, broadens McKinney’s image, expands the collective brand, and instills confidence in our community.
- Fosters positive interaction between city government and the people it serves.
- Assists with communications outreach and project-based marketing plans.
- Gathers information and builds communications content by working with team members at all levels of the organization and building relationships with Visit McKinney tourism/hospitality partners.
- Measures work effectiveness by recording results and progress of communications activities to determine effectiveness.
- Edits, and quality-checks communications materials.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and community meetings to promote its mission and initiatives.
- Works on special marketing projects and events.
- Performs related work as required.
- Complies with all written city policies and procedures.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Maintains availability to work after regular work hours/weekends as events, meetings and program needs dictate.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or closely related field or equivalent to an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of previous experience that includes a combination of project management, creative services, public relations, communications, writing, and marketing; or an equivalent combination of training, experience or education. A record of creative achievement and driving creative innovation. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, see the big picture, and show initiative in performing job duties and tying work to strategic communications and marketing plans and objectives. Proficiency in digital media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Vimeo), Canva, PowerPoint, Excel, and other day-to-day business programs. Must be able to show an extensive portfolio displaying social media management skills, including written narrative, photography, and digital reel creation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with basic graphic design principles, use of web CMS/CRM, video production, Sprout Social, and Robly or Mailchimp (an online digital communications/newsletter tool), and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus, in addition to a well-rounded communications background.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
- Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
