The Associate HR Operations Analyst will play a key role in supporting and administering HR functions related to benefits and payroll programs. This position will act as an advocate for employees, particularly in managing short term disability leaves, and will handle day-to-day tasks to ensure smooth HR operations.

Position Overview
The Associate Analyst, HR Services will play a key role in supporting day-to-day tasks related to benefits and payroll programs to ensure HR is providing employees with an optimal employee experience. Through regular audits and continuous improvement practices, this role will play a role in ensuring the integrity of our data and processes. In addition, this position will become an expert in US leave policies and administration practices and will act as an advocate for employees who are navigating their approved leaves.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day administration of benefit and payroll programs to include data quality reconciliation and variance reviews, support of short-term disability leave process, 401(k) program support, and Employee Stock Purchase (ESPP) administration.
- Support annual activities within the department such as open enrollment, year begin/year end activities, annual incentive processing, annual 401(k) audit activity, benefit renewals, total reward statements, and others as assigned.
- Ensure an excellent employee experience in the Markel Benefits Resource Center and HR Service center by performing call monitoring with third party vendors and providing feedback and modernizing employee facing communication materials as needed.
- Act as an advocate for employee short term disability leaves and work across a multi-vendor engagement model to ensure positive employee experience and accurate payroll results.
- Manage the Benefits, ESPP, and payroll shared email boxes and triage requests and collaborate with Markel or third-party teams to resolve any issues.
- Maintain benefit and payroll materials on the company intranet, alerting the team of necessary changes and working with related parties to obtain information.
- Assist with employee communication efforts, the monthly wellbeing newsletter, and actively participate in the global wellbeing network and other employee resource groups as needed to educate employees about Markel payroll and benefit programs.
- Assist with process documentation and identify improvements to existing processes and procedures focusing on hours optimized.
- Develop excellent working relationships with teams across global HR, strategic vendor partners and others within Markel.
- Review and pay invoices for the department, submit payment requests as needed and ensure proper cost center accounting.
- Prepare and submit documentation to regulatory agencies such as tax registrations, income verification, and unemployment data requests.
- Assist global benefit and payroll teams with related tasks and projects as needed such as business expansion or the implementation of new benefit and payroll programs.
Work Experience
- Minimum 1 - 3 years of Benefits or HR Generalist experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, High School Diploma required
- Workday systems/application experience is a plus.
- Experience working with third party vendors.
Skill Set
- Ability to learn HR processes, structure, functions and processes, and knowledge of database tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
- Demonstrate skills in AI or possess professional curiosity to leverage such tools to optimize process.
- Basic problem-solving skills, communication skills, and presentation skills.
- Collaborative team member and active participant on initiatives and projects.
- Exercises good judgement and actively practices confidentiality.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
