We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Copy Editor to contribute to and execute on industry-leading digital storytelling. This role involves making data-informed content decisions to create relevant, timely, and engaging content across platforms. The editor will manage the content lifecycle from planning to publication, ensuring that content is tailored for platform-specific audiences and aligned with business goals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in editing, a deep understanding of digital content consumption across platforms, and expertise in optimizing content for Search and Social Media. Experience with commissioning and editing stories on science, history, and archaeology is highly preferred. A robust network of freelance writers and the ability to curate original and timely pitches are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Strategy and Execution: Lead content creation from ideation to publication, ensuring alignment with platform-specific goals and editorial standards.
- Story Development: Pitch and develop content ideas that meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and audience engagement targets.
- Freelance Management: Build and maintain a network of freelance writers to secure high-quality and timely content.
- Editorial Collaboration: Participate in regular pitch meetings, contributing to content direction and executing decisions efficiently.
- Search Optimization: Collaborate with the Digital Engagement Team to refine editorial search strategy, develop compelling headlines, and experiment with new digital tactics.
- Audience Engagement: Work with the Editorial Newsletter team to drive subscriptions and improve reader engagement.
- Social Media Integration: Collaborate with the Social Media team to create and promote digital content that enhances audience reach and engagement.
- Performance Analysis: Meet regularly with the Manager of Digital Editorial to review content performance, gather feedback, and explore new content opportunities and formats.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of editorial experience in digital publishing.
- Strong editing background with expertise in search engine optimization (SEO) and a proven track record of writing compelling headlines.
- Experience using data-driven tools to analyze content performance and inform content strategy.
- Strong ability to generate story ideas from brainstorming sessions and translate them into engaging content.
- Expertise in crafting headlines and content optimized for digital consumption.
- Highly developed ability to identify and create visually and narratively engaging content.
