The Speyer Legacy School seeks a full-time Communications and Marketing Associate. The person in this position plays an important role in developing and implementing Speyer’s comprehensive marketing and communications plan and is responsible for helping Speyer tell its story in compelling ways.
Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing, and in collaboration with colleagues across the institution, the Communications and Marketing Associate contributes to Speyer's overall communications and marketing strategy. They will conceptualize and implement cross-platform communications and marketing support for not just general communications, but also to further academic, admissions, advancement, and overall internal and external institutional goals.
The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and editor and possesses a journalistic and marketing eye for both written and photography/videography formats. The successful candidate is an innovative and stellar digital marketer who is familiar and comfortable with social media, digital marketing, and web duties as outlined below. The candidate must also be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects under deadlines. The ideal candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team in the fast-paced environment of an independent K-8 school. Those without a sense of humor need not apply.
Duties & Responsibilities
Social Media and Digital Content Creation/Photography/VideographyResponsible for populating Speyer’s social media feeds; create timely content, monitor comments, project-manage regular updating of feeds, and regularly monitor peer school’s social media.Launch and manage multi-platform social media marketing campaigns; track results of each campaign and stay up-to-date with the latest social media marketing trends. With the Director of Communications and Marketing, create content for and work with the school's outside digital marketing/SEO company for biannual and ongoing digital ad marketing campaigns. Regularly shoot, edit, and produce high-quality photo and video content that captures school life for both internal use and marketing purposes; edit and package content for cross-platform use.Create, edit, organize, and maintain the school's database of photo and video assets.Visual and Written Storytelling
- Proactively identify and document compelling events, classes, and people in the Speyer environment. Craft mission-aligned stories about Speyer’s people and programs for both internal and external audiences.
- Create/contribute written and visual content to the school’s digital and print communications, including but not limited to the weekly community newsletter, school website, annual magazine, admissions materials, marketing materials, and fundraising materials, and any other printed or digital collateral as needed and directed by the Director of Communications and Marketing.
- Professionally represent the Communications and Marketing Department as a liaison and creative partner in visual and written storytelling to other administrative offices and programs throughout the school, including but not limited to academic divisions, advancement, admissions, alumni, arts, and athletics.
- Understand the audience and specific goals for visual and written content in all areas of school operations and craft responsive content.
- Champion the school brand and identity by ensuring all communications and marketing content maintains a high level of quality and features the school’s style, editorial, graphic, and branding standards.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Source, design, and order school spirit gear and swag.
- Support the Speyer Parents Association in communication for their events and work with them in creation and design of school promotional products.
- Support the mission of Speyer and the work of communications and marketing through regular presence at events and appropriate participation in employee-focused professional development days and meetings.
- Other projects and duties assigned by the Director of Communications and Marketing and/or the Head of School.
- Attend occasional evening/weekend events as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a similar field.
- Strong, compelling writing skills and excellent editing and proofreading skills.
- Work-related experience and demonstrated success in social media management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Ability to write quickly and in a variety of styles for different audiences/uses.
- Strong artistic sense in photography, video, and graphics; demonstrated abilities to produce and edit high-quality digital photography and videography.
- Understanding of the importance of brand adherence, visual identity, and editorial standards, and the ability to communicate and enforce these to others within the institution.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with individuals of all ages and in all departments of the school.
- Superb attentiveness to detail and accuracy.
- Consistent track record of collaboration and juggling multiple priorities.
- Facility with Google Suite required; high proficiency with CMS, social media and social media management tools, WordPress platforms, and video editing software required; knowledge of Canva, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, and Microsoft Suite a plus.
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary to provide support of school events.
- Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist and anti-bias education.
- Experience working with Veracross a plus.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary Range
Salary range is $65,000 - $82,000 commensurate with experience. This is an in-person position. Competitive benefits include health insurance; fully paid dental/vision/short-term and long-term disability; 3% retirement contribution after one year of employment; generous paid time off and school holidays.
