The Marketing Specialist will coordinate marketing, brand awareness, and other media relations for SC Thrive with the goal of increasing community understanding of SC Thrive's mission and furthering the organization's impact across its footprint. This position will assess and track marketing effort success, plan meetings/events, maintain databases (external contacts, media, legislative, etc.) and coordinate public relations and communications. The Marketing Specialist will research, create, edit, publish, and share content (original text, images, video, or HTML) that builds meaningful engagement and encourages donors, partners, community members, and other constituents to act.
This position will manage and execute marketing projects, support marketing requests, and collaborate with other departments and partners, driving SC Thrive's growth initiatives through strategic marketing efforts.
Job-Specific Functions
Strategic Direction
- Assist with the development and implementation of SC Thrive's marketing and communications plan in alignment with the organization's strategic priorities.
- Measure, track, and evaluate SC Thrive's marketing strategy according to industry best practices; modify and course-correct strategy accordingly.
- Develop keen understanding of information pertaining to SC Thrive and its programs to effectively create marketing materials and plan campaigns.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of donor engagement strategies through marketing and communications channels.
- Serve on a variety of planning teams to assist with establishing contacts, developing project plans, coordinating communications, and completing assignments.
Content Design & Editing
- Create and post engaging and valuable content on SC Thrive's digital platforms, including social media accounts, website, blog, etc. to build an audience and effectively tell the organization's story.
- Source and curate thoughtful content for physical platforms such as one-pagers, presentations, flyers, annual reports, etc.
- Write and edit written copy pertaining to SC Thrive and its programs for distribution via a variety of mediums.
- Create and edit graphics and art designs for both digital platforms and for professional printing.
- Create and edit video content for use on a wide variety of digital platforms.
- Design, produce, and send SC Thrive's mass email notifications, such as newsletters, etc.
- Monitor and enforce brand standards in communications across the organization, both internally and for external distribution.
- Accurately proofread and assist with edits for blogs, web pages, printed materials, newsletter, press releases, social media posts, etc.
- Create and update displays such as banners, signs, etc. as needed.
- Photograph and video staff, clients, partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders to use in various mediums.
Public Relations
- Research, write, and coordinate the distribution of press releases to media.
- Serve as primary point of contact for media outlets in arranging interviews and media attendance at events.
- Promote SC Thrive at conferences and events as needed.
Operations & Logistics
- Manage and maintain SC Thrive's contact and distribution lists for external communications, including email newsletters, mailings, online forms, and social media engagements.
- Manage all marketing and communications campaign development and execution from start to finish.
- Manage SC Thrive's online materials catalogue.
- Manage all marketing and communications data, tracking and reporting on related metrics as needed.
- Work with outside vendors for print and publishing services.
- Create and keep promotional materials ready; place orders for collateral and promotional materials; verify receipt of materials and manage inventory.
- Ensure projects align with budgets and timelines; ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional team meetings.
- Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
- Minimum of three years of experience with marketing, web design, or management
- Experience in or displays comprehension of federal and state programs and benefits
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, multimedia digital platforms, and design software programs
- Excellent communicator and writer with experience as a spokesperson who can articulate message to different audiences - ability to successfully present at conferences/events
- Ability to multitask and work well within time constraints
Preferred Experience
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Graphic Design preferred
- Demonstrated desire and ability to work with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds and thrive in diverse environments
- Displays ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and be a self-starter
- Experienced running cross-functional projects with large teams
- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and sound judgment
Additional Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends, as needed.
- Must have reliable transportation or be able to secure transportation for travel as needed.
- Must have a valid SC driver's license, minimum state auto insurance, and the ability to travel to multiple worksites in SC.
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with SC Thrive policy.
- Must have consistent, secure, high-speed internet access that is at least 25 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload and meets SC Thrive's standards.
