Banyan Global, an international development consulting firm, is recruiting a full-time (Senior) Program Officer to support our Health Practice.

The (Senior) Program Officer provides technical, financial, and programmatic support to assist in the implementation of Banyan Global’s Health Practice projects. We are looking for a self-starting mid-career professional with experience in health system strengthening (HSS), human resources for health (HRH), malaria, and/or procurement and supply management (PSM). Up to 50 percent of the (Senior) Program Officer’s time will support the USAID/Nigeria Health Workforce Management (HWM) Activity, a five-year project to support the establishment of a cost-effective, well-trained, and motivated health workforce, particularly in targeted rural and remote areas of Bauchi, Ebonyi, Kebbi, and Sokoto States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Other projects include the USAID Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) Project, the USAID President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) REACH Malaria Project, and the USAID NextGen Comprehensive Technical Assistance (CompTA) Project.
This position is based in Washington, DC with some travel abroad and requires authorization to work in the U.S. Banyan Global currently operates on a hybrid schedule. This position may be filled at either the Program Officer or Senior Program Officer level, depending on the final candidate’s experience.
- Provide technical, program management, and operational support to a portfolio of Health Practice projects
- Contribute to project deliverables such as regular progress reports, financial reports, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plans, knowledge management (KM) products, etc.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to project timelines and deliverables
- Assist Program Managers and field teams with budget development and financial monitoring of projects by assisting with budget and contract modifications as well as monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Recruit and mobilize staff and consultants for long- and short-term assignments
- Review client and subcontractor invoices and conduct monthly expenditure analyses of project budgets against expenditures
- Track project procurements to ensure that procurements are planned and completed so that activities are on time and in budget
- Help prepare project work plans and support monitoring of progress on key deliverables and against indicators and targets in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) plans
- Support management of subcontracts and provide programmatic input for clearance of partner invoices along with ongoing financial management of partner expenses, in coordination with the country backstop team
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with USAID and subcontractors to ensure alignment, clear communication, and effective collaboration throughout project implementation
- Maintain regular and transparent communication with field staff to align priorities, address challenges, and ensure seamless project implementation.
- Support external communications efforts including development and review of success stories, newsletter articles, blog posts, website updates, or other external communications products
- Supervise and mentor Program Coordinator(s) assigned to the same portfolio of projects and provide guidance on policies and procedures
- Participate in new business development
- Manage organizational deadlines and responsibilities such as completing corporate budget projections
- Liaise with USAID, contracting agencies, and other clients on project issues
- Travel abroad for project and/or new business assignments
- Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred
- 5-10 years of experience in international development, supporting USAID-funded projects
- Experience in HSS, HRH, malaria, and/or PSM
- Experience with developing work plans, reviewing reports, and supporting field programs, including start-up and close-out
- Experience managing and developing project budgets
- Experience with USAID policies, procedures, and regulations
- Experience with developing work plans, reviewing reports, and supporting field programs, including start-up and close-out
- Experience in negotiating and drafting (pre-)teaming agreements, writing and managing proposals and applications, and managing overall bid processes
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, clients, and consultants
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Fluency in a second language (especially French and/or Spanish) a plus but not required
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Salary range $75,000-$110,000 depending on years and nature of experience
