About CHN: Carnegie Hill is one of New York City’s iconic historic districts featuring several landmarked buildings and beautiful visual vistas that reference over two centuries of New York City social history. Carnegie Hill Neighbors (CHN) was fundamental to the neighborhood’s designated districts, by advocating for mid-block building height limits, specific zoning, and programs begun with community investment for cleaner, safer, greener streetscapes. These efforts support the local small businesses, schools, and other institutions in the area, which make Carnegie Hill attractive to young families, singles, artists, professionals, and active older adults, who seek a community with strong roots.

Mission: CHN’s mission to build a community of long-term residents and protect neighborhood historic assets includes a range of quality of life initiatives to add to municipal services and outreach that supports residents, building staff, and small businesses. A mix of public and private support funds CHN efforts, and touches on environmental and historic preservation advocacy, to ensure Carnegie Hill remains a vibrant, cultural resource for New York City.

Role: A new position, the Marketing & Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with CHN’s board-led Marketing and Communications Committee. Ideal candidates will have strong soft skills, a collaborative mindset, and a flexible schedule. A minimum tenure of three years in a similar role is valued as it reflects an understanding of nonprofit funding and operations cycles.

Key Focus: The primary goal is to increase revenue and expand CHN’s impact within Carnegie Hill and like-minded communities. The new hire will have agency over the design and implementation of key systems and processes, with the following deliverables:

- Digital Strategy: Develop and execute CHN’s digital marketing and communications strategy, across intersecting platforms, using the current digital tools to elevate CHN’s visibility online and “in the real world” Plot a 36-month growth plan in 6-month increments with manageable goals, including contingencies and moonshots.

- Automation: Implement systems to automate administrative tasks, enhance productivity, improve CRM data analysis, and streamline daily operations.

- CHN Newsletter Distribution: Using historic data, analogous markets analysis, and digital enhancement to hard copy publications, architect an accurate and efficient annual newsletter program and distribution system in hard copy and digital

- Data & Database Management: Optimize donor management using Donor Perfect and plugins for data-driven outreach and communication of CHN programs, newsletters, advocacy, and events with regular reporting to the Executive Director and Board.

- Website Management: Oversee website updates, assess needs, and implement improvements to ensure it remains a dynamic resource.

- Outreach Execution: Lead digital outreach efforts capable of analog conversion to increase CHN’s impact. Update the CHN style guide, media kit, advocacy materials, stakeholder manuals, and public-facing content (e.g., newsletters, annual reports, fundraising appeals).

- Templatization: Create templates for both public-facing and internal materials, ensuring a consistent, cohesive and efficient communication strategy.

- Membership & Participation Initiatives: Develop and manage annual outreach and follow-up strategies in collaboration with staff and the finance manager, focusing on solicitation and donor engagement.

History: CHN formed in 1970 with a mission of safety awareness and to prevent residential tower development in Carnegie Hill. Granted 501(c)(3) status in 1988, CHN expanded the mission with Park Avenue Mall maintenance and plantings, a daily patrol, street tree care and streetscape cleaning. After 52 years as a “small” nonprofit, the current leadership increased CHN’s operating budget by 50% at the city and state level to funds neighborhood development, zoning research, environmental and cultural initiatives.

Details: This is a full-time, at-will position, with mid-week evening availability.

Compensation is $65-75K, based on experience. After a six month probation period, health insurance benefits, hybrid work options, and two weeks annual vacation become available.

All staff are subject to an initial background check and annual HR certifications.
