Edit a monthly newsletter for Francophiles

Research cultural events organized by the local French, French-speaking, and/or Francophile communities.
Select events of interest and write a brief, functional presentation of each; complete with relevant information, image, and link to the event.
Interact with event organizers to collect all relevant information.
Collaborate with an editing team to ensure the newsletter’s publication on time.
Stick to a strict monthly schedule.

The newsletter copywriting internship is an intensive writing and editing work opportunity with the Press and Communications Office of the Embassy of France to the United States, located in Washington, DC. This internship is unpaid.

The intern will research cultural events of interest to the local French, French-speaking, and Francophile communities. In doing so, they will interact with various event organizers as well as with the team of the Press and Communications Office in charge of publishing the newsletter. Participants will grow in their information-gathering and copywriting skills, learn how to operate withing a network of internal and external partners, improve their French proficiency, and gain a strong understanding of the role of cultural communication within the diplomatic and consular fields.

Most interns in this position are native English speakers with a background in French, journalism, foreign affairs, communications or public relations.

Please note that the Press and Communications Office can only accept candidates who are enrolled at a U.S. university at the time of their internship (applications from candidates who have already graduated will not be considered).

Required skills

Education and/or professional experience:

Strong writing and proofreading skills
Interest in local communities and events
Interest in French and Francophone cultures
Excellent online research skills

Languages:

Native-level English
Understanding of written French necessary, proficiency preferred

Computer knowledge:

Proficiency with Google Docs, Word, image formatting, and various news sites.

Other:

Punctuality and commitment
Teamwork and a collaborative positive attitude

Special working conditions:

All interns will be working remotely, with frequent check-ins and email communications.

All interns must have a stable Wi-Fi connection and a personal computer.

Interns who work on site must be able to provide proof of a liability insurance during their internship.

Working hours:

10-15 hours per week, with most of the work taking place at the end of each month / 4-6 months / Limited to a maximum of 308 hours total.
