Our client, a women's health nonprofit organization, is seeking a Temp Global Press Officer to support their team for 2-3 months. The ideal candidate is a seasoned and connected media professional to engage priority European, U.S., and global media around the UN’s ruling. This project would commence asap and last through December 2024.
Rate: $50-150, depending on years of experience

Hours: 80-90 hours total
- Prep and Post-decision: 7 hours per week (49 hours)
- Week of Decision: 7 hours per day (35 hours)

Project: Global Media Support for Litigation at the United Nations
The Organization and its partners are awaiting decisions in a set of lawsuits filed with the United Nations Human Rights Committee on behalf of four girls from Ecuador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua who survived sexual violence. Decisions in these cases could come as early as this fall.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Write and edit press plans, press materials, public statements, internal memos, and talking points.
- Create and maintain media distribution lists; track trends; and provide reports.
- Proactively pitch high-profile media outlets around the world and respond to incoming requests.
- Manage media invitations, briefings, and other events.
- Conduct media monitoring and collect press clips when needed.
- Work with communications colleagues to bring global stories to US audiences and vice versa.
- Monitor international sexual and reproductive health and rights news and alert team members to breaking developments that they need to be aware of in a timely manner.
- Contribute to all internal and external communications relating to media, including the weekly newsletter for reporters and the daily internal news roundups highlighting coverage.
- Play a pivotal role on the Org's rapid response team, collaborating with other team leads to ensure breaking news is responded to strategically and in real time.
- Work closely with regional colleagues on statements and press remarks. Prepare colleagues for interviews and press conferences.
- Serve as primary media contact and maintain strong relationships.
- Identify and execute visibility projects, including profiles of the Org's regional vice presidents and other experts, and high-level speaking opportunities.
- Actively support the Org's internal and external commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in media relations or public relations, preferably in an advocacy or mission-driven organization;
- Experience working with an organization with global reach;
- Successful track record of developing strategies and campaigns in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment;
- Deep experience in media and press strategy including print, broadcast, digital and interactive media; hold strong existing press relationships;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively;
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to travel internationally;
- Deep dedication to the the org's mission, values, and strategic objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
