Events and Marketing Specialist

The Charles County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a part-time, dynamic, energetic, team player to join us as our Events & Marketing Specialist. This is a 20-25 hour per week part-time position. This is primarily a Monday-Friday position, however occasional nights and weekends are required. This talented professional will be the primary planner for monthly mixers, Lunch & Learn sessions, meeting room rentals and more. They will serve as the liaison to the Marketing and Events Committees and will assist the committee in planning, marketing, and executing the Chamber's signature events. This individual will maintain the master communications calendar, manage the events-related pages of the website, direct all events marketing, coordinate publication of the weekly Chamber eNews newsletter and manage production of the annual Business Directory & Community Guide. This position requires an exceptional and talented individual that excels in multiple business disciplines including sales, marketing, contract negotiation, volunteer coordination, research, writing, graphic design, scheduling, database management, recordkeeping, and reporting.
The Events & Marketing Specialist must be a self-motivated, well-organized, administratively savvy professional with a passion for community engagement. This valued team member must be dedicated to Chamber member satisfaction and loyalty by ensuring all interactions meet the needs of our diverse membership with the goal of organizing unforgettable events and producing memorable communications. The Events & Marketing Specialist will be responsible for encouraging increased attendance at Chamber events leading to increased revenue, expanded involvement on events-related committees, increased readership, and engagement of Chamber publications.
The primary events-related responsibilities for this position includes coordinating all aspects of event planning and execution including assisting with negotiating and managing contracts for facilities, caterers, audio- visual equipment, tent/table/chair rentals, entertainment, ordering event supplies, etc. This individual will work with the Operations Manager to maintain and adhere to event budgets. They will also be responsible for maintaining and adhering to timelines and project checklists; tracking inventory; recruiting and scheduling event volunteers; managing registration and responding to inquiries. Post-event responsibilities will include tracking, evaluating, and reporting on key metrics. This position will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of existing events, developing potential new event concepts, and benchmarking communications goals and objectives through in-person meetings, phone calls, and online contact.
The primary marketing and communications-related responsibilities for this position include implementation of the strategic direction of the Chamber’s communications, including but not limited to the weekly Chamber eNews newsletter, events-related eblasts, social media and the annual Business Directory & Community Guide. This individual will maintain the organization’s master communications calendar in coordination with other team members and manage all events-related aspects of the Chamber’s website. He/She will assist in the design and production of other online and print publications and will serve as the lead for the Chamber’s software program, ChamberMaster.
Essential job tasks include event planning; registration management; event set-up and breakdown; vendor and volunteer coordination; social media messaging; membership outreach/management, creation of print and online promotional materials; events database management; and outstanding customer service.

We serve approximately 500 Chamber member businesses, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, partners, and individuals.
Required Qualifications:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent customer service
• Exceptional writing and communications skills
• Team player and willing to learn
• Proficient in managing social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
• Understands how to create Reels and YouTube Shorts
• Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of WordPress and website content management
• Familiarity with marketing tools and analytics platforms
• Proficient in Canva or other creative platforms
• Employee must have reliable transportation
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Administrative tasks as required
• Collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance event experiences.

Preferred Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field. Applicants with 3-5 years of relevant work experience in marketing, business administration, hospitality, and/or event planning will also be considered. College students who have earned at least 30 credits are eligible to apply.

Additional Information: There is a 90-day probationary period for this position. The hourly wage is $17.00/hr.
