Description
We are seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to capture and promote our organization’s highlights, milestones, and experiences. This role involves close collaboration with program directors and upper management to address communication needs and strategize communication plans. The ideal candidate will develop and execute marketing campaigns, manage social media accounts, and support promotional event campaigns.

Established in 2015, our organization is committed to providing culturally relevant education and leadership development opportunities that invite Youth of Color to experience life science outdoors. Our mission is to teach and frame science and nature-based education through a lens that centers and elevates the stories, ways of knowing, individual needs, and lived experiences of Black and Brown communities. We aim to reduce the achievement gap in STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, Environment, Design) education and professions while fostering a sense of belonging for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPoC) in the natural and built environments. Our approach to STEAMED education is rooted in environmental justice and cultural history.
Essential Duties
- Storytelling & Communications (60%)
- Website Management: Maintain and update our organization’s website and event calendar, supervise web designers, and ensure uniform messaging and brand identity.
- Social Media: Develop and implement social media strategies, create engaging content, and manage our online presence through a racial equity lens.
- Media Coverage: Coordinate with videographers and photographers to capture program and event moments and schedule media coverage opportunities to promote our agenda and accomplishments.
- Newsletter and Communications: Collaborate with the Executive Director to create regular newsletters, update shared language, and design communication materials.
- Design: Curate collateral materials such as brochures, logos, and business cards.
- Community Engagement & Program Support (20%)
- Align with program directors to promote STEAM learning opportunities and develop registration processes.
- Maintain an inventory of marketing materials and establish cooperative relationships with programming staff.
- Coordinate media coverage and community outreach engagement through various communication outlets.
- Fundraising & Development (20%)
- Support planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, including creating graphics and newsletters.
- Collaborate with the Donor Relations Manager on corporate engagement, donor stewardship, and the development of promotional materials.
- Facilitate visual storytelling for promotional purposes through our website and social media platforms.
- Events
- Design, plan, and implement fundraising events, including vendor relationships, budgets, and event logistics.
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to achieve event goals and secure sponsors.
- Supervise the Events Intern and maintain event files and records.
- Teamwork
- Coordinate vendors with camp staff and our team as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or GED, with design experience (current college students welcome)
- Ability to pass a background check as required by the Oregon Department of Education for positions that work directly with youth
- Clean driving record for 1 year prior to application
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 years of experience in marketing and communications
- Proficiency with marketing-related software programs
