Communications & Digital Media Specialist
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs, assist with a variety of activities including writing, editing, and storytelling through digital media platforms. Obtain direction and assistance from team members to complete additional daily tasks.
What you'll do
- Work closely with the team to edit and post content for the organization’s digital media platforms, employing best practices to target key audiences and garner engagement.
- Identify and implement opportunities to engage and expand growth on social media platforms.
- Leverage industry best practices to help execute digital media campaigns.
- Monitor social media platforms and communicate issues and opportunities that may impact the industry, member companies, sister associations, and key stakeholders.
- Leverage digital platform to develop daily media clips.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create, edit, and distribute the company newsletter.
- Conduct research and assist with the creation of communications materials including videos, infographics, and website content.
- Review and edit internal and external communications materials including press releases and statements.
- Posts statements, news releases, and other relevant content to the website.
- Coordinate committee meetings, prepare relevant handout materials, handle logistics, and record meeting minutes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to synthesize complex information and create presentations, fact sheets, and communication materials for internal and external dissemination.
- Manage press list including national, local, beauty, and trade media.
- Identify other opportunities to expand network of press contacts.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
What you'll need to succeed (requirements)
- Bachelor's degree in PR, communications, journalism, or relevant field and 3-5 years of experience in public relations, communications, or public affairs.
- Working knowledge of social and digital strategy and project management experience - PR firm/agency experience preferred.
- Written communication – strong writing skills using AP Style with the ability to analyze and condense complex information, often under tight deadlines.
- Tactful – ability to interact with all levels of staff and outside parties, excellent cross-cultural diplomacy skills.
- Privacy – sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential issues and materials.
- Accuracy – keen attention to detail and the ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

- Technical skills –proficiency in social media, AP Style, WordPress, Microsoft Suite, Canva, and basic graphic design.
