Agri-Pulse is seeking a dynamic person who is interested in working in a fast-paced environment and joining the most talented team of journalists covering agriculture, food and rural issues. The position will be based in Washington, D.C., and the individual will work in cooperation with the Agri-Pulse editorial team located there. The combined team has over 100 years of experience covering food and farm policy issues, including the farm bill, specialty crops, immigration, rural development, water, climate change, global trade, and more.
The ideal candidate should have a degree in journalism or a related field, be familiar with agricultural trade and policy issues and possess strong writing and verbal communication skills. We are looking for an individual who is curious, confident and versatile.
On a day-to-day basis, the reporter will cover the U.S. Trade Representative’s office, USDA and related agencies on international and domestic trade issues. In addition, the individual will network with key farm organizations and other interest groups to gain insight on key trade concerns.
The ability to cultivate sources and anticipate future coverage will be crucial, as well as the ability to distill complex material into clear, concise articles.
Responsibilities will include writing both breaking news and in-depth analytical stories for our electronic newsletter and the web: www.Agri-Pulse.com. In addition, the candidate should be able to take digital photos and post updates on the web and social media sites.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter and able to work independently, while communicating with the editorial team in person, by phone and e-mail. The salary range for this position is $75-$90,000, depending on experience.
Candidate should have:
· A college degree in English, Journalism, or related degree
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Knowledge about agriculture and trade policy issues
· Excellent grammar skills and knowledge of AP style
· Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Content Management Systems
· Ability to work well with colleagues and sources
