Dementia Specialty Care Unit Program Director -

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize develop, and direct the overall programming of the Dementia Specialty Care Unit (DSCU) in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Administrator.
Administrative Functions
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans and coordinates a therapeutic program schedule, which meets the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of the resident
- Monitors daily functioning of the unit(s) to ensure continuity of, and appropriate changes in the program
- Establishes and maintains a sense of teamwork through effective communications, interactions and team meetings
- Develops and maintains a cooperative relationship with other department directors. Informs and consults with staff regarding program and integrates the program with other services
- Participates in support groups at the direction of Administrator
- Plans, coordinates and distributes a program newsletter or other communications for families
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation that complies with federal/state regulations and facility policy
- Develops and maintains written objectives for the program with procedures for implementation and method of evaluation
- Participates in reviews or unit social work and recreation services to ensure compliance with program standards
- Serves as a role model for staff regarding care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
- Treats residents with respect and dignity at all times
- Provides orientation and in-service training as directed by the administrator to community personnel regarding social/emotional needs of Dementia Specialty Care Unit residents
- Performs initial pre-admission assessment of potential resident
- Assists with the adjustment of the resident and family to the facility
Personnel Functions
- Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selections of staff for the unit(s)
- Assists and encourages employees in developing their skills and self-confidence and in understanding where and how their role impacts the community and facility
- Coaches/counsels/disciplines personnel as necessary
- Establishes and maintains effective communication to understand needs and concerns of employees. Communicates employee attitudes and expectations to appropriate director
- Ensures potential safety/health hazards are eliminated or controlled through regular reviews of work activities, materials, and facilities. Provides employees with training and instructions on safe work practices
- Report known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Administrator
Care Plan And Assessment Functions
- Participate in the development of preliminary and comprehensive plan of care
- Encourage the resident/family to participate in the development and review of his/her plan of care
- Review charting notes and assessments to determine if the care plan is being followed. Report any problem areas to the appropriate director
- Review and revise care plans as necessary, but at least quarterly
- Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care
Resident Rights
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information
- Report all grievances and complaints made to the Social Services Department or other designated department or individual
- Report all allegations of resident abuse/neglect and or misappropriation of resident property according to facility policy
Position Requirements
- Currently holds a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2 years experience in a supervisory capacity in a Hospital, Nursing Care Facility, or other related Medical Facility
- 2 years experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, 1 of which was in a patient or resident activities program
