Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
In this position, you will assist the Sustainability Manager in coordinating the Office of Sustainability's outreach and engagement initiatives, including year-round Office of Sustainability programs, internal and external partnerships, event operations, and social media management. The Outreach & Engagement Coordinator will work with the Sustainability Manager and undergraduate student assistants to ensure Chapman's institutional sustainability goals are shared with the community and that Chapman supports the sustainability goals of the surrounding community where possible.
Responsibilities
- Assist in running Office of Sustainability programs - Community Gardens, Weigh the Waste, Ecolympics, Regalia Reuse, Ditch the Dumpster & Donate (Move Out)
- Plan and host campus events with various partners (student organizations, campus colleges/departments, external partners, nonprofits organizations)
- Develop and manage content for the Office of Sustainability's social media, website, and newsletter
- Assign undergraduate student assistant tasks related to event planning/hosting and content development
- Assist in other Office of Sustainability tasks related to data analytics, energy management, research, and waste minimization and diversion
Required Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate that is familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word, Canva (or other graphic design software), and social media marketing (email, newsletter, Instagram.)
The candidate should have a basic knowledge of environmental science and sustainability, have a passion for sustainability education and sustainable living, and an interest in current sustainability forecasting, climate policy, and climate action.
The candidate should be available to work during Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 for approximately 15-19 hours per week. The anticipated work schedule will be determined when the candidate is selected, but the schedule will be set up to accommodate the class schedule of the successful candidate.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with data management and analytics in Microsoft Excel, social media management, and event planning and hosting.
