SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for Hart Energy's reporting on oil and gas technology topics, including leadership of the E&P Publication. Reporting to the Editorial Director and working closely with the Oil and Gas Investor and Digital Media teams, this senior editorial position will follow and coordinate news, features, executive Q&As, special reports and series primarily focused on onshore and offshore oil and gas technology and services. This position will also have an active role in planning content and conducting interviews for select Hart Energy conferences and events.
In addition, this editor will oversee content development for the occasional E&P magazine, the E&P Weekly digital newsletter, and the Tech Trends video series that is included in the newsletter on a monthly basis. This editor will also contribute regular content to Oil and Gas Investor magazine and daily online news on similar topics. The editor will solicit third-party articles and contributions from other energy companies on technology topics to be included in the E&P Magazine. The editor also will oversee a more junior technology reporter for all technology coverage in print and online.
This is an ideal role for an experienced energy reporter with a background in reporting on downhole and subsea technology. We are seeking an enterprising reporter able to uncover the untold angle of big news stories and also able to find the overlooked but important stories within the sector. The ideal candidate should come with varied sources within the sector and must be willing to put in the time to develop sources and stories that the industry needs to know.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Generates high-level content for company products. Researches, develops, interviews and writes exclusive content focused on the energy transition.
- Assists in conference agenda planning, speaker recruitment, conference moderating and coverage at company events.
- Works within a group of energy journalist working within the editorial department to plan technology content for HartEnergy.com, e-newsletters, podcasts, videos and conferences.
- Appears on-cameras for video interviews and reports.
- Moderate conferences and webinars.
- Travels to industry events for coverage, speaking and moderating as needed.
- Stays attuned to readers' interest and needs through a variety of methods including focus groups, surveys, conferences, industry analyses and reports, and collaboration with other staff members.
- Develops and nourishes a robust network of industry professionals. Travels frequently to events outside of home office. Develops and maintains an editorial presence that exemplifies Hart Energy values.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following education and/or experience is required:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or a related field.
- Eight-plus years related experience reporting on oil and gas services and technology.
- SEO best practices and capabilities of growing digital audiences across the company's digital platforms.
