The Opportunity:
The WSU College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a versatile writer with strong storytelling skills to support our diverse educational, research, fundraising, and outreach initiatives.
As a member of our communications team, you’ll contribute to content planning and development for a wide range of initiatives and media platforms. Your primary duties will include identifying stories, interviewing subjects, and writing news releases, newsletter articles, feature stories, and websites. You and your work will contribute to content for brochures, reports, social media, and other channels as needed. You will also help assess communications initiatives and contribute to data-informed decision-making. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are key to success in this role. You’ll work with and write about people at all levels and affiliations (faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, etc.) and have opportunities to cover subjects spanning 18 disciplines and five campuses, including history, psychology, environment, music, chemistry, and many more.
In addition to being part of the college communications team, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate with WSU News, University Marketing Communications, and communication staff from other colleges and campuses to provide, produce, and share accurate information about the College of Arts and Sciences. All WSU communicators are expected to incorporate DEI principles in their work to ensure inclusive and accessible messaging.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field AND either two (2) years of professional experience in print OR broadcast news media, public relations, marketing including the use of electronic media or two (2) years of other relevant professional experience.
- Two (2) years full-time experience developing news or story-based content.
- Experience developing and implementing communications goals in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment, including the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) or more years professional communications experience.
- Excellent proofreading skills.
- Experience managing an editorial calendar.
- Understanding of and experience adhering to AP and/or Chicago style.
- Experience with media relations.
- Experience collecting and/or assessing engagement metrics.
- Experience writing or producing content for radio, podcasts, or video.

Monthly Salary: $4,061.90 - $6,092.84 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
