The Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) is a non-profit organization with a mission to protect community and environmental health and inspire the use of ecologically sound solutions to reduce the use of pesticides.
The Healthy Food and Farm Program Managers (HFF PM) provides programmatic expertise on the ground. The HFF PM will work collaboratively with staff and board to move the NCAP mission forward, with deep commitment to protect community and environmental health, as well as to social justice and racial equity in food and land management systems.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Program Management:
- Lead implementation of existing projects under the Healthy Food and Farms Program, focusing on maintaining solvency while exploring new program-aligned opportunities.
- Organize educational events, workshops, and/or conferences to promote alternatives to pesticides and sustainable agriculture practices.
- Provide leadership at the state level and with agencies to build networks of organic farmers and markets, particularly in Idaho.
- Advocate for policies and programs that support our projects and partners.
Outreach and Communication:
- Collaborate with other program managers to integrate Healthy Food and Farms Program work with other NCAP initiatives such as the Farm Worker Education Project housed in the Bilingual Healthy People and Communities Program.
- Collaborate with farmers, researchers, agencies, industry organizations, tribes and others to implement on the ground projects.
- Share program updates and advancements through newsletter articles, reports, press releases, and presentations at conferences and events.
- Develop and disseminate resources to diverse audiences regionally and nationally.
Fundraising and Development:
- Collaborate with team members to prepare federal and foundation grant proposals and reports, securing funding for the Healthy Food and Farm Program and organizational operations.
- Work with team members and partners to develop proposal concepts, work plans, budgets, and relationships with grant funders.
- Assist with general fundraising and outreach efforts, including donor engagement and fundraising events.
Qualifications:
The Healthy Food and Farms Program Manager should be able to skillfully engage with diverse partners and members, show cultural competency and an openness to on-going learning. The HFF PM will understand and navigate a range of power dynamics well, including those rooted in racial or gender privilege. The HFF PM will ensure sound processes underscore the vital work of the HFF Program.
- Knowledge of sustainable agriculture principles and experience working with diverse stakeholders in agricultural settings (can also include non-traditional ag settings such as foraging and or Tribal food-ways).
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and media relations.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, with a focus on collaboration and long term initiatives.
- Dedication to working toward the use of ecologically sound solutions to reduce the use of pesticides
- Experience or interest in shared leadership models and collaborative decision-making
- Active commitment to working toward an anti-racist, multicultural organization
- Experience with anti-oppression and environmental justice work; ability to share a personal racial equity journey
Compensation:
The hiring salary for this position will be $26.50/hour at 20-30 hours a week. NCAP is shifting away from a 40 hour work week, but more hours may be offered as interest and funding allows. NCAP offers health and dental insurance (80% covered for the employee only); an IRA retirement plan; vacation and sick leave; 12 floating holidays; and flexible scheduling.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
NCAP is headquartered in Eugene, Oregon with a combination of office staff and remote staff in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. The HFF PM will work remotely from home within Idaho to allow for the smooth continuation of existing projects (with a stipend provided for a home office).
