JOB SUMMARY
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation seeks a part-time Development and Communication Coordinator to oversee our ongoing fundraising and communication needs. Reporting to the Executive Director, this professional must have an established background in coordinating nonprofit donation and communication strategies.
This role involves organizing large-scale fundraising initiatives, working with Board members, managing our annual appeal, business partnerships, and building relationships with donors and volunteers. The Development and Communication Coordinator will also assist our Program Services Manager with grant writing and implementing major giving and planned giving fundraising strategies. This role provides growth opportunities within the PSF.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about public education and have at least a bachelor’s degree with previous development and communications experience, preferably in the education and/or nonprofit fields. Applicants should be familiar with CRM nonprofit software, donor databases and other fundraising technology; have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; be excellent time managers, creative, flexible and organized.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development and Communications Coordinator is responsible for helping the Public School Foundation further their mission by assisting with development activities, donor communications, and event management. The position reports to and works closely with the Executive Director to assist with donor engagement as well as coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the Foundation’s annual fundraising activities and events.
- Plan, schedule, and execute PSF fundraising events, including but not limited to: 5K for Education, Teachers First Breakfast, Donor appreciation and fundraising events.
- Coordinate Communications Plan for annual and year end giving, including but not limited to: Annual Appeal, Giving Tuesday, Partner in Education Campaign, Books over Break, Teacher Supply Store.
- Build upon current and develop new Partner in Education relationships.
- Work with Development & Communications and Events committee to plan and execute new fundraising strategies.
- Increase public awareness of Public School Foundation’s work.
- Coordinate events with District (as needed).
- Oversee social media, newsletter and annual report content.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Professional experience as an event coordinator, development/marketing assistant, or fundraising experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize and coordinate volunteers.
- Proficient with Social Media creation/posts, video, etc.
- Proficient in Google Drive, Mail, Sheets, and Docs.
- Ability to present project outline and manage scheduling of priorities. Strong attention to detail, and good time management skills.
- Outgoing personality, professional, positive, energetic, proactive, tactful, and diplomatic.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes long hours near/during events.
- Passion for public education and the mission of PSF.
- Must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and physical demands.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or hospitality is preferred.
- Proven experience with a non-profit as an events coordinator or development assistant is preferred.
