GENERAL PURPOSE
The Multimedia Specialist uses audio and video production and graphic design skills to inform and engage those who live, work, visit and play in the City of Bee Cave. This position supports the Communications Director to initiate, plan and produce visual communication projects to support community outreach. Such duties include live and taped video productions, including editing and posting; creating and managing graphic design content and related materials; assisting with posting and monitoring of social media activity; taking, editing and posting photographs; assisting in the creation and display of presentations; assisting with internal newsletters, written articles and news releases; and creating printed materials such as ads, posters and brochures. This also includes managing and maintaining the City’s brand guidelines, and ensuring internal and external partners remain in compliance with those guidelines.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
The Multimedia Specialist will report to the Communications Director and may oversee interns and volunteers. This position has frequent contact with city staff, elected officials, volunteers, vendors, and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Capture, edit and produce raw footage, graphics and audio assets into broadcast-quality videos for a variety of City communication channels.
· Create content to support communication needs through scheduling, interviewing, logging, storyboarding, writing, recording and editing stories, PSAs, promotional videos, podcasts, programs, and social media channels.
· Create flyers, brochures, banner designs, website page elements, and other marketing collateral pieces based on needs from various departments.
· Operate and maintain a variety of audio-visual equipment and instruments, such as video cameras, microphones, lights, recorders, editors, photographic cameras, slide projectors, and film processing equipment for City events and activities.
· Serve as a technical expert for assigned work areas, such as directing a photographic or video shoot, providing audio-visual support for presentations, and answering written or telephone inquiries regarding City or departmental policies or activities.
· Create accessible content through closed captioning files and other techniques.
· Serve as a back-up and assistant for monitoring and responding to inquiries from City staff, the public, and news media.
· Attend city meetings and events, assist with public information during citywide events, respond to city emergencies, weather events, incidents, and perform duties, as required.
· Proactively searches for and assists with implementing technological and efficiency improvements or enhancements to the City’s website, social media channels, and other tools the City uses.
· Assist in developing multi-media presentations as required, including slide shows, videos, and photographic exhibits.
· Help develop, edit and design City promotional items, event flyers, social media graphics, and other materials as required.
· Participate in creating monthly internal newsletter for City staff.
· Complete projects within scope, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining regular and reliable work attendance.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor's degree in multimedia communications, photography/videography, journalism, graphic design, or related field.
· Two years of experience in graphic design and audio-visual production.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
· Preferred certification in graphic design work.
· Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
· Maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record, as defined by City policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X).
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Software.
· Knowledge of Adobe Suite Products.
· Knowledge of operating a Nikon D5600 or similar product.
· Understanding of local media and media landscapes.
· Basic media relations and/or public relations skills.
· Proficient knowledge and skills in graphic design program(s) like Adobe Suite, Canva and audio/visual production tools.
· Ability to learn new concepts and apply knowledge appropriately.
· Ability to act in the best interest of the City, maintain confidentiality and continually striving to improve self and job performance.
· Ability to perform effectively while working independently or as part of a team.
· Ability to video, edit, and create strong Power Point Presentations.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Work environment is primarily an office setting
· May include occasional work during late evening or early morning hours and/or weekends
· Work occasionally requires travel, including overnight stays, involving training and conducting City business.
· The work may require lifting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
· Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
