About Airlink
Airlink is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit humanitarian logistics organization that works with aviation and logistics partners to transport relief workers and emergency supplies for reputable non-governmental organizations (NGOs) responding to rapid-onset disasters and other humanitarian crises around the globe.
Today, Airlink’s network consists of more than 50 commercial and charter airlines and 200+ international NGOs. Airlink and its airline partners have transported more than 12,000 passengers and more than 16 million pounds of cargo in support of a broad range of humanitarian initiatives that have provided aid to more than 59 million people. Airlink has saved our NGO partners more than USD $36 million in transport costs.
Looking forward, Airlink shows no signs of slowing down, with a three-year strategic plan that includes increasing our team by 25%, doubling our annual revenue, and diversifying our funding base. To that end, we are seeking a Development Associate to support our expanding Development team in achieving its fundraising goals from corporate, foundation, individual, and government donors.
Position Summary
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Marketing & Communications serves as the chief communications officer responsible for the coordination and implementation of strategic branding, media relations, and integrated marketing campaigns.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, engaging storyteller, and trusted advisor able to support Airlink’s fundraising, mission delivery, and general organizational communications needs. Due to the nature of Airlink’s mission supporting disaster response, there will be an occasional need to work extended hours or on weekends with limited advance notice.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a communications strategy that aligns with the strategic plan, engages all key stakeholders, and supports fundraising and program delivery objectives.
- Serve as Airlink’s brand ambassador, ensuring consistency of message, look, and feel of all communications products.
- Manage the organization’s internal and external communication vehicles, including website, newsletter, blog, social media, marketing materials, and annual reports.
- Assist Development Team with creation and distribution of disaster-driven and annual giving fundraising campaigns, including digital and direct mail collateral.
- Assist Programs Team with creation and distribution of NGO partner newsletters and reports.
- Manage media relations activities including oversight of press releases and statements, cultivating relationships with press, providing media training to staff, and organizing press briefings/events.
- Identify and secure speaking opportunities for the President and senior team; develop relevant talking points and conference/event collateral as needed.
- Work across teams to create rich and creative content that is audience appropriate and highlights Airlink’s donors and NGO partners.
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of communications efforts, analyze data insights, and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Manage contractors and Communications Manager; hire new staff (as budget allows).
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships to expand the Airlink brand.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or other relevant field is required. Advanced degree preferred.
- At least seven years of non-profit communications experience, including two years+ in a management role (relevant agency or for-profit experience considered).
- Strong project management and people skills; ability to pivot seamlessly between priorities and work well on a collaborative and interdisciplinary team.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills; ability to craft narratives that resonate across audiences and cultures.
- Strong proficiency in communication tools and platforms, including social media management, email marketing, content management systems, and analytics tools.
- Experience working with media and key influencers; ability to train others for interaction with media.

Location:
Airlink is headquartered in downtown Washington, D.C. and operates a hybrid work schedule with the team in-office three days a week. Given the collaborative nature of this position, we are only considering candidates who are in or willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C. area.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000. Additionally, Airlink provides a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to:
