Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Public Policy Communications:
- Partner with the government affairs team to support NVCA’s core policy objectives.
- Develop integrated communications strategies to raise awareness of NVCA’s policy positions on Capitol Hill, throughout the industry, and in the media.
- Capitalize on real-time news hooks and trends to drive public policy messaging.
- Write, edit, and distribute prominent weekly policy newsletter and other policy updates.
Executive Communications:
- Manage the development of communications materials for the CEO and other key staff.
- Create event briefing memos, talking points, speeches, PowerPoints, and other documents.
- Edit materials to reflect executive feedback and ensure timely delivery.
Media Relations:
- Cultivate strong relationships with the media and proactively secure coverage of NVCA.
- Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and manage spokesperson opportunities.
- Develop and distribute policy statements, press releases, media pitches, op-eds, blog posts and other materials.
Social Media:
- Manage all social media channels in support of NVCA’s priorities – policy, industry positioning, and event marketing.
- Manage content calendars and pivot quickly to reflect changing priorities.
Research Collaboration:
- Work with the research department on the development and release of various research projects, including the NVCA/Pitchbook Yearbook and quarterly Venture Monitor reports.
Website Management:
- Oversee the NVCA website including structure, design, and content with special emphasis on timely updates and additions.
- Work with vendors on ongoing site development and maintenance.
Marketing:
- Coordinate with the membership and development team on marketing activities to attract and retain members.
- Develop marketing strategies, content, email, social media, and website campaigns.
- Increase NVCA brand awareness and visibility through relevant channels.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimum of eight years in communications, media, public relations, or marketing.
- Experience on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, or in a policy environment is preferred. (Trade associations, government relations firm experience welcomed.) Familiarity with tax or capital markets issues is ideal.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Detailed orientated, strong proofreading skills, and highly organized.
- Proven track record of developing strategic communications plans and securing media coverage.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Collaborative and able to work across teams to achieve goals.
- Excellent mentor and leadership skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree a plus.
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM, Slack, MailChimp, and VC/PE databases like PitchBook desired.
- Familiarity with WordPress, HTML/CSS, and basic graphic design skills (Adobe Illustrator) is a plus.
