The Youth Development Specialist will focus on the development and implementation of the Formula for Impact and programs within the Five Core Program areas (Character Development & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, The Arts, Health & Life Skills, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation). Will support the Club in meeting all academic and enrichment program requirements for various initiatives and grants.
Must be cooperative, friendly and create a safe and harmonious environment. Abide by and support the Club mission, to inspire and enable all young people to reach their full potential as caring, productive and responsible citizens.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Develop and implement programs at Ventura County Juvenile Hall
- Work directly with incarcerated youth at the Ventura County Juvenile Hall Club
- Maintain the up-keep, safety, security and appearance of the Club at Ventura County Juvenile Hall
- Manage grant requirements for program, keep records, collect and track data and generate reports as requested by Administrative staff
- Responsible for daily tracking of attendance and other required data collection to ensure accurate program reports and updates are turned in on a timely manner for submission to funding sources
- Oversee the delivery of day-to-day program activities consistent with established goals
- Promote and stimulate interest in activities through quarterly bulletin board displays, monthly flyers, announcements of upcoming programs, and newsletter articles- (NO photos of members should ever be used)
- Coordinate and implement spontaneous recreational activities and structured programming that supports the Formula for Impact and Five Core Program areas
- Maintain maintenance of all recreation equipment and facilities. Report supplies needed for facility and programs as needed to supervisor
- Work with Juvenile Hall staff, Ventura County Probation and parents/guardians to recognize members for good work and discuss issues that may occur at the Club
- Ensure staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated and well-lit and that all materials are maintained in good condition
- Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity. Ensure youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities
- Ensure club policies and procedures are upheld in accordance with our Club mission with all program staff
- Maintain members order and discipline by managing members' behavior; reinforce rules of the club and all the recreational areas
- Keep all member's information confidential
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Abide by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme and Juvenile Hall Policies & Procedures and Mission Statement
- Attend trainings and workshops in the field as requested
- Attend staff meetings and other Club sponsored events as requested and Board/Committee Meetings as requested
- Abide by Federal and State Laws
- Must provide quality customer service by meeting and greeting the public, parents, members and outside groups who enter the facility. Be prepared to provide guided tours and answer questions;
- Wear appropriate staff uniform while working at and/or attending Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme functions
- Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan
- Provide structured daily developmentally appropriate programs and encourage member participation of program
- Maintain close communication with Supervisor and regularly provide tracking data, program progress and concerns
- Other duties as assigned will be required as well. You must be flexible as determined by the needs of the program
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff and volunteers to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.
Requirements
- A minimum of two years completed college courses /48 College Units, SOE, PSY, CJ
- A minimum 1-2 years experience working in related field preferred/possess Teen experience, system involved youth
- Submit & Pass to a fingerprint/background check
- Complete and pass the Juvenile Hall criminal history and background check- FBI and DOJ background check
- Submit a clean DMV H6 report form- Must be approved as a driver by our Club auto insurance provider
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Pass TB test
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 11am - 8pm
