Data Science Intern

Overview

The Data Science team here at Sigma Squared is looking to hire interns for the 2025 Summer and Fall sessions. Over the course of this 3-month engagement (or 6 month Co-op), you will collaborate closely with our Chief Data Scientist and other members of the Data Science team to help craft and execute on our data strategies. You'll learn how we collect and clean data from diverse sources, how to apply advanced statistical techniques to derive actionable insights for our clients, and assist in creating the machine learning models that power our platform. You'll also be exposed to process automation and learn how to effectively communicate statistical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

What you'll do

• Directly support Senior Data Scientists in defining data strategies for Sigma Squared
• Collect and clean data from various entities.
• Implement advanced statistical procedures to obtain actionable insights.
• Research solutions to overcome data analytics challenges.
• Create machine learning models.
• Automate and integrate processes.
• Visualize and communicate results such that non-technical founders understand statistical insights.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Working towards a BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Economics or other related quantitative fields. Pre-MBA and Pre-PhD students are especially encouraged to apply.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Excellent understanding of statistics, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively influence others
• Demonstrated ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  
  

Nice-to-have:

• Some familiarity with SQL, STATA, or R.
• Advanced coursework in machine learning and programming.
• Experience with Data Visualization tools and languages.
