Quatrro Business Support Services is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Medical Billing for our nonprofit division. This strategic and operational leader will head the Medical Billing department and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the revenue cycle, with a focus on Medicaid and private insurance billing for nonprofit health and human services clients. This role ensures the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of billing operations across multiple clients, supporting strong financial performance and client satisfaction. The AVP collaborates with executive leadership, clients, and payors to implement scalable solutions, optimize reimbursement, and ensure regulatory compliance in a complex and evolving payor environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Direct Client Services (80%)
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement strategic billing initiatives that improve revenue performance, especially across Medicaid and commercial payors
- Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure the alignment of billing operations with client service goals and growth strategies
Operational Oversight
- Oversee all daily medical billing operations, including the timely submission of claims to Medicaid, Medicaid MCOs, and private insurance
- Ensure accurate coding, encounter data, and submission processes comply with payor-specific requirements
- Monitor and improve KPIs related to claim acceptance, denial rates, AR aging, and cash collections
- Implement and optimize billing workflows, tools, and technologies across the department
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all billing practices comply with HIPAA and federal/state regulations, including Medicaid and commercial insurance guidelines
- Stay informed of changes to Medicaid reimbursement models (e.g., value-based, capitated payments) and commercial insurance contract terms
- Oversee internal audit processes and lead responses to external payor audits or data requests
Client Engagement and Reporting
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for key nonprofit clients on billing-related matters
- Build strong relationships with client finance and administrative teams to provide transparency and strategic guidance
- Deliver routine and ad hoc reporting, insights, and dashboards on financial and operational performance
Supervisory Responsibilities (10%):
- Lead, mentor, and develop billing teams and team leadersacross multiple client portfolios
- Create and maintain a high-performance culture with a focus on accountability, training, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with HR and leadership to support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development
Other Duties and Responsibilities: (10%)
- Provide thought leadership through presentations on technical and management issues to organizations and prospective clients
- Support the review and management of contract scope, pricing, and staffing to ensure financial profitability of assigned engagement(s)
- Engage and participate in the client’s community and mission through various means, such as volunteer opportunities
Extent of Public Duties:
- Serve as a representative of Quatrro as a dedicated thought leader to various organizations within the nonprofit industry and broader community, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions
General Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree strongly preferred
- Minimum of 8-10 years experience in medical billing or revenue cycle management
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role, with proven experience coaching and developing a team
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
- Proven success in managing change, scaling operations, and leading cross-functional initiatives
- Adept in creating and implementing processes and efficiencies
- Prior experience working with nonprofit or safety-net healthcare providers strongly preferred
- Prior consulting and/or experience working in a business process outsourcing (BPO) model strongly preferred
Industry-Specific Skills (Preferred):
- Health and human services, housing, and outpatient behavioral health industry experience
- In-depth knowledge of CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, and Medicaid and commercial insurance billing requirements
- Strong understanding of claim workflows, EDI, EOBs/ERAs, and denial management strategies
- Proficiency in EHR systems, billing software, and payer portals (e.g., Availity, Aetna, Molina, Blue Cross)
- Extensive experience with Medicaid (especially Illinois Medicaid and MCOs) and commercial insurance billing
Location and Travel Requirements:
This position predominantly operates remotely, although occasional travel may be required. Travel is typically local to client sites in Chicago and the surrounding greater Chicago area.
This role is open to candidates who live in one of the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, or Wisconsin.
The estimated pay range for this position is $125k-160k annually.
